| Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70  | McGwire Upset at Delay in Canceling Games St. LOUIS (Reuters) - St. Louis Cardinals home-run king Mark McGwire says he is dismayed that Major League Baseball did not move more quickly to postpone this weekend's games. ``It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that sporting events are absolutely meaningless compared to what's going on in Washington and going on in New York,'' McGwire told Friday's St. Louis Post Dispatch. McGwire said he thought even plans to re-start the season on Monday should depend on the progress of the rescue and recovery efforts at that point. ``That is the first and foremost thing, trying to find if any more people are alive,'' he said. ``For athletes to even think about going out to play with lives still buried, it's totally wrong... ``I feel ashamed we're even talking about it. We should be talking about what's going on in New York and Washington and what the President and everybody else is trying to do,'' McGwire said. ``No, (the sport) is not a diversion, until those people are found and the families can go on with their mourning. This country has yet to go into mourning. It's still in shock,'' said McGwire. ``When the President says, 'Get back to normal life,' it means get back to normal life. That means to leave your house, to do your shopping, food. Not to play sporting events,'' McGwire said.
