Islanders' Peca scores twice in home debut

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) -- Mariusz Czerkawski's power-play goal with 7:56 left gave the New York Islanders a comeback 4-2 victory over the New York Rangers on Saturday night before 10,469 fans at Nassau Coliseum.
Before the game, the teams lined up at center ice in alternating fashion, with every player holding miniature American flags except Mike Mottau of the Rangers and Mark Parrish of the Islanders, who held larger flags.
Michael Peca scored twice in his home debut for the Islanders (1-1-1). Jason Blake added a short-handed, empty-net goal with 2.2 seconds remaining to seal it.
Zdeno Ciger had a goal and assist for the Rangers, who also had a goal from Theo Fleury.
Garth Snow played all but 3:46 in net for the Islanders and stopped 18 shots. Rick DiPietro relieved Snow early in the third period and didn't face a shot.
Rangers rookie Daniel Blackburn continued to impress as he went the whole way and made 38 saves, some spectacular.
A brawl broke out at 12:36 of the second period which resulted in 69 minutes in penalties. Of those, 37 were assessed to Rangers defenseman Dale Purinton, who was ejected after running into Snow.
Two other Rangers were later tossed for spearing; Fleury and right wing Richard Scott. The two teams totaled 134 penalties, 99 for the Rangers.

LMMFAOROTFL I know it doesn't count, but it's a win, and it's a preview of what's going to happen all season long! Go Isles!

I attended this game Sat. night.

As I was leaving the colieseium parking lot I asked my roomate, "Why are Isles fans acting like they won the stanley cup?"

He was belwildered like I was.

Hey the Isles may have something to build on, but why so many penalities in a preseaon game for crying out loud.

And Daniel Blackburn.
Remember the name. That's all I gotta say.

bet at least 7000 were rangers fans. Isles couldn't draw bees to honey or in their case flys to a garbage dump.

ha ha ha you're all just sooooooo funny. we'll see during the regular season when the isles start winning games and people go watch them.
the rangers may sell out every game at the garden, but it's all business clients and stupid fucks like that, not real fans. even though the isles may only get a few thousand a game (on a good game, granted) they're all real fans, die hards who will stick with their team through everything, as shown by the last 7 years.

all the rangers fans are in the top of the garden. The garden is too expensive for the real fan. That is why, the Meadowlands and the Mausoleum, only sell out when they play the Rangers.

It is no secret that the Garden is loaded with business phonies for the Rangers as it is for the Knicks.

But fact is, its because they are the ones who can afford the ridiculous ticket prices.

If their were none of that and the Prices were the same as they are everywhere else, the Rangers would still sell out, with Real Fans.

Their are many Real Fans like myself who cant get to every game and can only go to a handful at most because thats all that is available.

Tickets go on Sale tomorrow for the Rangers, and Ill be lucky if I can get tickets for 2 or 3 games at Ticketmaster starting at 9am.

Just compare Rangers average attendance 1994 vs last year, and Isles 1983 attendance vs. last year.

nuff said.

I have no problem with you, ziggy, being true fan; but there are far too few of you on LI.

Same goes for Devils fans. The attendance they get for Stanley Cup level team is embarrasing.
