| Mike Piazza's 36th home run of the season tied him with Yogi Berra at 306 for home runs in a career by a catcher. Piazza now only trails Carlton Fisk (351) and Johnny Bench (327) in that category. Piazza's average also rose to .301 yesterday, the first time it has been above .300 since May 8.
Whether your a Met fan or not its pretty unbelieveable that Piazza has hit over .300 every season of his career. Once Gwynn retires, its the longest active streak of season's over .300.

The season's not over yet. He is going to have to maintain another good week this week to stay over .300. He's at .301 right now.

| Not to jinx him but he has to face some tough Pittsburgh and Montreal pitching. I pretty sure he will hold on.

| Piazza's awesome, and in my opinion, better than Ivan Rodriguez.
For all the hand jobs that everyone gives Ivan over his defense, in reality, he's not that good. He's got an absolute cannon for an arm, and there is no debating that. However, aside from his arm, he's an average defender at best, and year after year, his staff's ERA is higher when he catches than when he doesn't.
In regards to hitting, Ivan had a couple seasons that were better than Piazza's but Piazza has done it consistently for 10 years, and in a much much weaker hitting lineup.

| I'm a huge Piazza fan, but you have to give I-Rod his credit, he's the best all-around catcher in the game. He's amazing. I would kill to have him behind the plate for the Mets and to move Pizza down the line.

| I-rod has the gun for sure, but I don't watch enough games to see the rest of his game. Piazza is an underrated backstop - With exception of end of Braves games he calls a pretty good game, blocks well enough pitches in dirt, and is truly amazing at way he throws his body after those foul pops.
I- rod has been too injury prone lately for my liking.
As for offense, Piazza is in a class by himself.
over .300; with at least 92 RBI's in 8 of 9 he's hit over 32 hrs (other year was 24 hrs)
Hopefully he will not suffer decline most catchers suffer; he takes great care of himself, so hopefully.
