Personally I like the guy a lot. He seems to know a lot about football and any added humor to a game is always a bonus. Of course I set myslf up for the "well Dennis Miller doesnt add any humor" response, but you gotta admit, he is funnier than Phil Simms or John Madden. Sports isnt always conducive to humor but I feel he does the best with what is given to him.

Sportscasters are usually boring and tell us shit we already know, so a comedian in the booth is a nice breath of fresh air. I know he has already been in the booth for a while so this isnt really topical but I was just interested in your opinions on him.

Since this is the Sports forum, I probably shouldve called this thread: "Official Dennis Miller Chat Thread". D'oh!

Hate him. Al & Dan do a great job, it's a shame they can't find a 3rd announcer to fit in better.

In his own show on HBO I think he's great, but for MNF he's playing to an entirely different audience. He's just horribly out of place on MNF, and should stick to Dennis Miller Live.

I thought he was AWFUL at first, but I have to say he's been steadily improving from week to week.

Here's a guy who's funnier than me, you know, he's got, he's got, he's got some good, you know, he's, he's, he's got some good, some good commentary.

Going with the comedian theme, I think Jay Mohr would do a much better job than Miller. He's funnier, and he knows sports. He's been great (in my humble opinion) on the Fox morning show.

I didn't see "loathe" up there, but that's my answer.

I absolutely despise him.

Two years ago, Rush Limbaugh was the other guy they were looking at to potentially step in. I would have rather had Rush two years ago, and a deaf Rush would still be a better broadcaster, and would DEFINATELY be more interesting.

I dunno, if you didn't find, "Bud Selig looks like Harry Potter in volume 83 of the series 'Harry and his magic Prostate'" funny, then you just don't know comedy. ;)

Personally i like the guy. I find him a good change of pace in the booth from Fouts and Michaels. He really has come around too in that he knows what he is watching and talking about. Very funny guy.

i like his hbo show but i don't think his humour translates to sports too much. not that i've really been watching much lately, what happened to scheduling the good games for mnf?

Dennis Miller is NOT FUNNY on MNF.
He might be able to do a decent stand up act. BUT all of his lines are pre written and forced. He has NO funny off the cuff remarks. It seems that a players name gets called and he goes through a box of index cards for the joke about him. It is just so damned forced.
PLUS I consider myself on the good side of the bell curve. I am educated and fairly well read and I hate it that his jokes are meant to make everyone including myself feel stupid. What is the point of a joke .05% of the people get?
Fouts actually displays a good wit and has made me laugh with lines that were clearly off the top of his head.

This message will be edited by Ken'sPen shortly.

Write To Me Here

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?
