| O&A Board Veteran Registered: May. 00  | Well the draw for the 2002 World cup was today and the groups are interesting to say the least. Ill put them out here and then give my comments. GROUP A France Senegal Uruguay Denmark GROUP B Spain Slovenia Paraguay South Africa GROUP C Brazil Turkey China Costa Rica GROUP D South Korea Poland United States Portugal GROUP E Germany Saudi Arabia Ireland Cameroon GROUP F Argentina England Nigeria Sweden GROUP G Italy Equador Croatia Mexico GROUP H Japan Belgium Russia Tunisia Commentary: The U.S. got a favorable draw in my eyes, although many of the soccer critics dont see it that way. They say the U.S. will be lucky to get out of that group alive. I dont agree, I think that they will get out of that group and advance to the second round. Italy got a good draw too. Their toughest opponent may be a Mexican team that barely qualified for the tournament at all. Plus if they win the group their second round opponent comes out of the U.S group. So we may be looking at an Italy-U.S. matchup in the second round. England always seems to get screwed in the draws. Facing Argentina, a top cup contender, a revitalized sweden team and a Nigeria that always shows up and plays big in the World Cup wont be easy, but if they are half the team that they should be, a trip to the second round should be theirs. France and Brazil have the easiest groups in my mind. Write them in for second round trips already. Well now its 6 months of speculation until may 31st when France and Senegal open up the cup:)  You know, guys, I moved here and I thought, "Great! I'm outta the big city and I'm finally in a place where everybody isn't gonna be crawling up everybody's asshole every day! A place where maybe my biggest nightmare is gonna be getting some goddamn cat out of a tree!" But forget that! EVERYBODY IS INSANE,EVERYWHERE! | ||||

| Psychopath Registered: Sep. 01 | I don't know if it's corny, but I will be rooting big time for the US soccer team and even though I know the rules already, I've never really been dedicated to watching soccer in my life. Poland, maybe, but Portugal won their group and beat out two good teams, Holland and Republic of Ireland to get it. By the way, Fuck you to Ireland for beating out Holland for the other spot in our group. Fuck, fuck, fuck you. Fuck you. And I'm glad England got screwed with Argentina, Nigeria, and Sweden. You did not impress me during qualifying. Despite winning the group, you played poorly. I predict Argentina to win the group, England to come in second. Although I hate to do that. I give Uruguay a lot of credit for beating out Australia for the final spot, but I see them coming in last in Group A. Besides Denmark, France doens't really have any other challenges. As for group B, it's Spain all the way. I know South Africa did a good job beating out Zimbabwe, but I'll give them second. Paraguay and Slovenia don't got it. In group C, it's Turkey all the way to the second round. I give them great props for beating the shit out of Austria. Brazil had to fight for a decent finishing spot and I see them coming in second. In Group E, I'll take Germany. Sure, they had to win big over Ukraine to make it, but I don't see Ireland (especially since I hate them), Cameroon or Saudi Arabia being able to stand up to the old Third Reich. Group G, Italy first, Ecuador second. Enough said. Group H, Japan first. It's a struggle for second between Russian and Belgium, but I think Putin's country will pull out a second place finish. So, with my ethnic country out of the running, I'll have to turn to my minority ethnic country, Russia, and my national country to root for. The U.S. won't make it to the second and Russia won't make it beyond the second. Should be some good match-ups nevertheless. I just don't want France to win. | O&A Board Veteran Registered: May. 00 | My point was out of all the #1 seeds out there, the U.S. was grouped with what is obviously the worst seed out there. If S.K. wasnt a host nation for the event they would have NEVER been a #1 seed. As for Portugal, yes they are a good team, but they can be had, just like any team out there. The U.S. is no slouch. With guys like Reyna, Keller and all their other talent they should make the second round, no matter what any critic says. You know, guys, I moved here and I thought, "Great! | Psychopath Registered: Aug. 00 | Well let's deal with this, Faceman. Portugal will place first. There cannot be any dispute about that. Second will be either the United States or Korea. In France '98, they had a tough group with the Netherlands, Mexico, and Belgium, and placed last with just one point (tying Belgium). I don't think it will be easy for the U.S. to obtain second, even though they have a better group than with Germany, Yugoslavia, and Iran. But I cannot agree that it is automatic. I could not care less. I had free tickets to whenever the World Cup was played in America and I had trouble even giving the tickets away.  | ||||

| Psychopath Registered: Jun. 01 | I just finished watching Cameroon vs. Ireland (en es-pan-yole). Very, very good game, Cameroon dominated for the most part and Ireland was lucky to come out with a tie (they did seem to wake up in the second half). I'm rooting for the Irish, but Cameroon is not a team to be taken lightly and they play with a lot of class. Goaltending was great on both ends. African teams are now 1-0-1 vs. Europe in these early stages. Who knew? Denmark vs. Uruguay is up next...  Metal / Wrestling / Baseball Ninja / pr0n | ||||

Obviously I want the US to win to show that Europe and South America suck at every sport now. What a performance by Germany!! 8-0?? I wouldn't want to be the goalie that faced that birrage...
