NFL BREAKDOWN- Week 13- December 9,10, 2001

New York Giants (5-6) at Dallas Cowboys (3-8)
The Giants have had a long time to regroup after their latest loss to Oakland which put the Giants under .500. The defending NFC Champions are in trouble and have very little margin for error left in the season. A win in Dallas is imperative if the Giants are going to make a late playoff push. Dallas got a great road win last week in Washington, as they just own the Redskins. But now it should be time for the Cowboys to step back to reality. The Giants are hungry to get off the snide, and are long overdue to play a complete 60 minute Football game. I expect that from Big Blue on Sunday and for the Giants to handle the Cowboys easily.
SCORE: Giants 24 Cowboys 6

New York Jets (7-4) at Pittsburgh Steelers (9-2)
A Huge matchup taking place in Pittsburgh this week and one that is very important for the Jets. The Jets are coming off their devastating loss to the Patriots last week, and now are going to have to itch and claw to make the playoffs. With how down it has been in Jet Land after the loss to the Pats, it can all be made up and turned completely around with a win in Pittsburgh. Both teams have key injuries on opposite sides of the ball. Jerome Bettis will be out for Pittsburgh, while Aaron Glenn is out for the Jets. Zeroue can still do some damage against the Jets, but the Jets should be able to contain him. This should be a hard fought low scoring tight game, that I am giving the Jets the advantage to. The Steelers are due to be knocked off and have there eyes set on a big matchup with the Ravens next week. The Jets need this one more and they shall get it.
SCORE: Jets 17 Steelers 10

San Francisco 49ers (9-2) at St. Louis Rams (9-2)
This should be a real fun Football game to watch and points will be scored at a premium. The 49ers have proven lately that they are indeed for real, and there offense is just as dominant as the Rams is. The Rams clobbered Atlanta last week 35-6, but were beaten at home by Tampa on Monday Night the week before that. I think this is a game where Jeff Garcia steps into stardom and the 49ers make a statement that they are surely for real. 49ers win this game which may take them to an NFC West Title.
SCORE: 49ers 40 Rams 34

Tennessee Titans (5-6) at Minnesota Vikings (4-7)
Are the Titans back? Well it sure looked like it last week in Cleveland when they absolutely manhandled a decent Cleveland Browns team. The Vikings are just destraught. They looked good when they beat the Giants on Monday Night, but since then have struggled and for all intended purposes are done. Never count out the Vikings in Minnesota, but I think the Titans get the job done, and maybe can get something going, and get in the thick of things in the AFC Playoff race.
SCORE: Titans 26 Vikings 17

Carolina Panthers (1-11) at Buffalo Bills (1-10)
Well if the NFL Had Bowl Games like College Football then this one would be the Toilet Bowl. The Lions may be 0-11, but these two teams right here are the worst 2 teams in the NFL. And the team that gets that honors is the Bills. They totally didnt show up in San Francisco last week in losing 35-0. The Panthers have been playing better as of late and have lost some tight games, but they are still awful as well. Chris Weinke leads the awful Panthers to a win at the awful Bills.
SCORE: Panthers 16 Bills 14

Chicago Bears (9-2) at Green Bay Packers (8-3)
Now this is a Football Game. The oldest rivalry in the National Football League has seen many big games, and this one will be added to that on Sunday. First Place in the NFC Central is on the line here. The Bears still have that game a few weeks back in their heads when the Packers went into Soldier Field and beat the Bears. This should be hard hitting smash mouth Football at its best, and dont count the Bears out. If the Bears can win this game, they are destined for an NFC Central Title. I think the Bears will be in at the end, but Im taking the Packers to stay strong and win it late.
SCORE: Packers 20 Bears 17

Cleveland Browns (6-5) at New England Patriots (7-5)
These two teams were on different ends of the spectrum a week ago. The Patriots were as high as can be after their enormous win at the Meadowlands against the Jets to get to 7-5. The Browns took in on the chin at home to the Titans that put a damper on their playoff hopes. I think things turn around this week. The Patriots might be a little emotionally hung over after last week's win, while Butch Davis will have his Browns ready to play and Im picking Cleveland to get the win in New England.
SCORE: Browns 25 Patriots 20

Detroit Lions (0-11) at Tampa Bay Bucs (6-5)
Those poor Lions. It seems every week they are there at the end but the breaks never go their way. And they should experience more of the same this week. Expect the Lions to be close, but the Bucs to win the game.
SCORE: Bucs 23 Lions 17

Jacksonville Jaguars (3-8) at Cincinnati Bengals (4-7)
Two teams on the bottom of the AFC Central lock up in Cincinnati. The Bengals got off to a quick start but lately, its been the same old Bengals in Cincinnati. Meanwhile it seems like every other week the Jaguars are blowing games. They blew one late against Baltimore 2 weeks ago, and blew a 21-7 lead on Monday Night to the Packers. Both teams seasons are finished, but I think the Jaguars take their frustrations out on the Bengals and whallop them.
SCORE: Jaguars 34 Bengals 16

New Orleans Saints (6-5) at Atlanta Falcons (6-5)
Huge game taking place here in Atlanta. The winner will be looking good for a playoff spot, the loser will be looking at some tough times. The Falcons may have come down to reality last week when they were blasted by the Rams. The Saints still have not played their best Football yet. The road team usually wins when these two teams match up, dont expect that to change this week.
SCORE: Saints 29 Falcons 17

San Diego Chargers (5-7) at Philadelphia Eagles (7-4)
The Chargers are very cold after a hot start. The thing that caught up to the Chargers is they actually had to play some decent teams for a change, and the Eagles are one they will face this weekend. The Eagles have not looked very good at home this season, with the exception of one game against Minnesota. I expect the Eagles to win this game they need to have to keep a stranglehold on the NFC East lead. Eagles win it, but Chargers keep it close.
SCORE: Eagles 22 Chargers 16

Washington Redskins (5-6) at Arizona Cardinals (5-6)
There are not many teams in this league that have been more impressive the past couple of weeks than the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals got a nice win in San Diego two week ago, and then got a huge upset victory last week in Oakland. The Skins lost their first 5, won their next 5, and then took a huge blow against the Cowboys last week. The Cardinals deliver the knock out punch this weekend and actually have legit playoff hopes, although they are still higly unlikely.
SCORE: Cardinals 27 Redskins 13

Kansas City Chiefs (3-8) at Oakland Raiders (8-3)
Not a good time for the Chiefs to catch the Raiders. The Raiders got embarrased last week with a home loss to Arizona, and it dont take a brain surgeon to figure out that the Raiders were not up for the game. Thats the only way to explain a team like the Raiders losing at home to a team like the Cardinals. Its rebound time for the Raiders and they always have a reputation for being a nasty team, and expect it to get ugly in Oakland this week. The Raiders sure wont be taking anybody for granted anymore, even the lousy Chiefs. This one will get ugly.
SCORE: Raiders 38 Chiefs 10

Seattle Seahawks (6-5) at Denver Broncos (6-6)
This is a key AFC West matchup on Sunday Night, where the loser will see their playoff hopes take a hit. The Broncos have had a very dissapointing season this year as they were expected to make a Super Bowl run. Injuries have hurt them, but they just havent looked goot at all. The Seahawks best performance this year was a Sunday Night game against Oakland when Derrick Alexander went wild. I expect more of the game from him and a Huge road win for Seattle. Invesco Field doesnt have that magic that Mile High did. The Broncos have already lost twice their and make it 3 times.
SCORE: Seahawks 26 Broncos 20

Indianapolis Colts (4-7) at Miami Dolphins (8-3)
Its amazing how the Dolphins always seem to get by by the nick of their teeth. They pulled out that game in Buffalo two weeks ago, and did it again last week against Denver. The Colts are just about done, and have little to no pressure on them. I expect Peyton Manning and boys to rebound with a good game, and if they can break through and score on Miami's defense, they can be in a good shape, because the Dolphins are not world beaters on Offense. Im going with the Colts here to knock off the Dolphins on Monday Night.
SCORE: Colts 26 Dolphins 18

13-1! 13-1?

To make the playoffs, realistically, the Jets have to not only beat those odds but dismantle them. Bettis is out, as you said, which should help put Stewart in the spotlight, who some consider weak, but still has won 13-of-16 starts.

Oh, and Gang Green is 0-4 on the road against the Steelers.

Go Vinny!

These are the numbers that people keep talking about. But what do they really mean or matter?

What does something that happened maybe 20 years ago, have to do with tomorrow afternoon.

From the Front Office, to the Coaches, to the players, these are completely new people.

I dont think the Jets will be doomed tomorrow come 4:15, because In 1982 and 1985, they lost to the Steelers.

If its a streak like the Jets have on the Dolphins or like the Skins have on the Cowboys then it means something, because its recent.

The Last time the Jets played in Pittsburgh it was 1992. None of these guys playing tomorrow were there, Its not even the same stadium. Not even the same uniforms, at least for the Jets.

Steelers to Jets: "Look what we did to you, AGAIN!!! OOoooh!!"

Nice going Edwards. Rather than extend the game by kicking a FG, you go for it on 4th down and refuse any chance of tying. :(

I give up on these losers. Vinny sucks, everyone sucks, its not the chat thread that made them lose, its the uniform. I don't care if they win out, but I really don't have to worry about it cause its not happening, here's to another playoff-less year for the fucking Jets. Why couldn't they just suck all year, why toy with me with these wins over the Phins to make me think they are actually good, the Phins suck also. I have been a Jets fan all my life and I really can't take this shit anymore. You could put the best players at every position right now in a Jets uniform and they would still finish 9-7 as a result of a end of the season collapse. I actually think I might cry tonight, or take a massive amount of bong hits. I think tearing off all my toe nails and dipping my feet in pickle juice would be less painful than watching the Jets in December.

Its not over yet, they have 2 of the worst teams in Football at home in the Bengals and the Bills. And that might be all they need to make the playoffs. Somebody in the AFC is going to the playoffs with 9 wins, and 2 of the Jets losses are out of Conference which will help them come tiebreaker time. And if they get 1 road win, they will be assured of a Playoff spot.

Testaverde was horrible, and the Steelers defense dominated, and the Jets couldnt stop the Steelers on 3rd Down, thats why they lost the game.
