| NFL BREAKDOWN WEEK 14- December 15, 16,17, 2001
Arizona Cardinals (5-7) at New York Giants (5-7)
Its been a very dissapointing season to say the least for the defending NFC Champions and it looks like this season is all but done for the Giants. The Giants have to win their remaining games, and would still need help to get into the playoffs. The Cardinals were one of the hottest teams in the league until the Redskins stopped them last week. Now the Cardinals slim chances of a playoff spot are all but done as well. So the loser of this game is officialy done, while the winner is still all but done. The Giants have to play a good football game some time, as it has been months since they have. Their season began to fall apart in that 2 week span with tough 1 point losses to the Rams and Eagles. They never rebounded from that. The Giants have had plenty of oppurtunities to snap out of it and have failed every time. I expect a dull lackluster game at the Meadowlands, one that the Giants should win. But much like the last time they beat Arizona, it wont be very impressive.
SCORE: Giants 19 Cardinals 14
Oakland Raiders (9-3) at San Diego Chargers (5-8)
Suddenly the Raiders dont seem as dominant anymore in the AFC. 2 weeks ago they get stunned by Arizona at home, and they barely edged Kansas City last week at home. Now they head to San Diego, a team that has in a terrible slump after a very fast start. Now the Chargers season is over, but this game is on National Television, its a Divisional Matchup and you know the Chargers are up for this game and would love to knock off the Raiders here. I dont see that happening here, but I would expect a high scoring, entertaining football game. The complete opposite of what the early Saturday afternoon game should be. The Chargers may even win this game, but Ill take a late Oakland victory to get them to 10 wins.
SCORE: Raiders 31 Chargers 28
Cincinnati Bengals (4-8) at New York Jets (7-5)
The way the Jets offense has looked lately, there is no way the team warrants to be 8 1/2 point favorites. They definetly should win this Football game, and definetly better win this Football game, but with Paul Hackett's dismal running of the offense, I cant see the Jets blowing anybody out. Expect the Jets to get off to an early lead and milk the lead. Playing not to lose rather than just trying to knock Cincinnati out of their misery. Jets win this game and then hopefully are up to play for what will be a huge game for them next Sunday Night in Indianapolis.
SCORE: Jets 22 Bengals 14
Denver Broncos (7-6) at Kansas City Chiefs (3-9)
The Chiefs may be 3-9, while the Broncos are 7-6, but when games feature rivalries like this one, you can usually throw the records right out the window. Just like the way it is with Dallas and Washington, and even experienced last week with Kansas City playing tough in Oakland. The Broncos had an impressive Sunday Night win over Seattle last week, but overall this year have not been very impressive. The Broncos absolutely need this game if they are going to make the playoffs, and The Chiefs can make up for a dismal season by knowing that they delivered a severe knockout punch to Denver. Brian Griese is not playing in this game and I feel that will be huge coming down the stretch. I dont have the confidence in Gus Frerotte with the game on the line late as I would with Griese. And this game will be decided late and in favor of the Chiefs.
SCORE: Chiefs 23 Broncos 20
Atlanta Falcons (6-6) at Indianapolis Colts (4-8)
Well Jim Mora continues to prove week after week that he is the worst coach in the NFL. To inherit the team that he has and to have the record that they have in unimaginable. I dont care if Edgerrin James has missed alot of games or that Peyton Manning is having an off season. Mora has lost this team and there is absolutely no way he will be back next year. The Colts embarrased themselves on Monday Night by getting pounded 41-6 to Miami. That showed that this team has quit. The Falcons are still in the race, somehow are 6-6. But the last two weeks blew big oppurtunities with home losses to the top teams in their Division. The Falcons need this game to keep their playoff hopes alive and I feel the nightmare season continues for the Colts.
SCORE: Falcons 36 Colts 29
Jacksonville Jaguars (4-8) at Cleveland Browns (6-6)
Some heartbreaking Browns losses have been followed by some bad Browns losses and that has pretty much ruined what was looking to be an improbable playoff run. Now the Browns are in some trouble, but not out of it yet. The Jaguars got a nice road win last week in Cincinnati, but that still doesnt get them off the fence as a medicore to bad football team. The Browns should rebound and get back into the thick of things, but it might be too late for them.
SCORE: Browns 23 Jaguars 14
Minnesota Vikings (5-7) at Detroit Lions (0-12)
No team can be more unluckier than the Lions. They are 0-12, yet with some luck could have as many as 6 wins, maybe even more. It seems every week they lose in the Final Minute. The 0-12 streak ends this week at home. The Vikings have yet to win on the road this year and have been the most hard to figure out team in the league this year. Some weeks they look like the old Vikings, like last week against Tennessee and the Monday Night Game against the Giants. Other weeks, they look terrible, like their Sunday Night game against Chicago, or their anihalation in Tampa Bay, or their opening week loss to Carolina, who havent won since. The one thing that has been common for Minnesota is poor road play, and look for that to continue. The Lions take out their frustrations and not only win, but win big.
SCORE: Lions 32 Vikings 17
New England Patriots (8-5) at Buffalo Bills (2-10)
Somehow the Patriots continue to roll and are almost destined to be heading to the playoffs. Something that nobody thought was possible back earlier in the season before Tom Brady took over. The Patriots showed me something last week by coming off their emotional win over the Jets, with a solid win over Cleveland. Now the Pats head up to Buffalo, where its never easy to win, especially in December. But the Patriots should get it done. I dont expect it to be easy for them, but they have been finding ways to win, and they should do it again and set up a huge Showdown with Miami next week, which could decide the AFC East Crown.
SCORE: Patriots 24 Bills 16
Philadelphia Eagles (8-4) at Washington Redskins (6-6)
3 weeks ago the Redskins proved that their comeback season is for real when they went to the Vet and totally shut down the Eagles. The Eagles havent forgotten that. A win this week from the Eagles would just about wrap up the NFC East Division, and just about wrap up the Skins playoff hopes. The Eagles have yet to lose on the road this year, and I expect that to remain the same this week. Eagles get their revenge and totally shut down the Skins.
SCORE: Eagles 17 Redskins 6
Tampa Bay Bucs (7-5) at Chicago Bears (9-3)
A Huge NFC Central matchup at Soldier Field and one that should be a very competitive game. The Bucs have a history of playing lousy in cold weather and that could have an effect on this game, but I feel the Bucs right now are as hot as any team in the league and are on a late season surge. A few weeks back the Bears got a huge road win in Tampa, I feel the Bucs turn the tables on the Bears and will just about solidify a playoff position here, and will then be shooting for a Home Playoff game.
SCORE: Bucs 16 Bears 13
Miami Dolphins (9-3) at San Francisco 49ers (9-3)
An excellent contrast of styles here at Candlestick and what should be a heck of a Football game. Miami impressed alot of people last week with their thrasing of the Colts on Monday Night, while the 49ers failed to seize the moment when they were beaten in St. Louis. I dont fully quite believe in the 49ers yet as a powerhouse team and I think they may be overwhelmed by Miami's defense. If Miami can keep this a low scoring game, and dictate the play of the game, they will have the advantage. Im taking the Dolphins to win this game on the road. I hope Im wrong, but I see them pulling this out.
SCORE: Dolphins 24 49ers 23
Green Bay Packers (9-3) at Tennessee Titans (5-7)
This is not going to be a cakewalk for the Packers, despite the Titans 5-7 record. The Titans are just about done and are officialy done with another loss. Adelphi Stadium is still a tough place to play and the Packers are going to need to be on their game to win this one. I feel the Packers a true threat in the NFC and they will prove that by winning this game, knocking out Tennessee, and helping themselves on their way to a probable NFC Central Title.
SCORE: Packers 28 Titans 20
Dallas Cowboys (4-8) at Seattle Seahawks (6-6)
Lately the Cowboys have not been playing like the poor pathethic team that everybody has labeled them throughout the season and even before the season began. They have been a solid football team and are coming off victories over the Redskins and Giants. We are bound to see why the Cowboys have been touted as a terrible football team, and that should come out once again on Sunday. The Seahawks have been very tough at home lately, and are coming off a bad loss to Denver last week which hurt their playoff chances. Seahawks rebound and continue to chase down the playoffs.
SCORE: Seahawks 29 Cowboys 12
Pittsburgh Steelers (10-2) at Baltimore Ravens (8-4)
Excellent Sunday Night Football game between quite possibly the two best teams in the AFC. These teams are strarting to build up a good rivalry, as their has been a war of words and these teams do not like each other. The Ravens earlier in the year gave the Steelers a heartbreaking loss at home, thanks to poor Field Goal Kicking from Kris Brown. Kris Brown's ineptness is going to come down and bite the Steelers somewhere down the road, and it could be the difference between them going to the Super Bowl or not. Ravens are pumped for this game, they are home and they get the job done again. Expect an Excellent Defensive showdown here, and their wont be many points scored in this game.
SCORE: Ravens 20 Steelers 7
St. Louis Rams (10-2) at New Orleans Saints (7-5)
No question, the Rams have been the most dominant team in the league over the past 3 years, but they have one flaw. And that is playing the New Orleans Saints. They lost to them in the playoffs last year, and already lost to them this year, a game they were leading 24-6 at Halftime. This should be an excellent battle, but the Saints spell over the Rams should end here, because its hard for any team to keep this team down that many times. The Rams remember the first meeting, and they may have lightened up with that huge Halftime lead. The Rams certainly arent going to take anything for granted here and they win, but it should be close.
SCORE: Rams 30 Saints 26
