Psychopath Registered: Nov. 00 | NJ Pride in new lacrosse league Friday, March 9, 2001 The Record Online (www.bergen.com) LITTLE FALLS -- Former Springfield College standout Ted Georgalas has been named coach of the New Jersey Pride, which will begin play June 9 in the inagural season of Major League Lacrosse. Georgalas, who graduated from Springfield in 1993, was named to the Greater Hudson Valey Chapter of the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1995. The Pride, one of six teams in the new league, will play its home games at Yogi Berra Stadium. The team will open on the road against the Boston Cannons before beginning its home schedule June 16 against the Baltimore Bayhawks. The league also includes the Bridgeport Barrage, Long Island Lizards, and Rochester Rattlers. Each team will play a 14-game schedule (Thursdays through Sunday) over a three-month span, culminating with the playoffs the weekend of Sept. 1. An all-star game will be played July 7 at a site to be determined. Players will be paid an average annual salary of $15,000, although there is no salary cap. MLL founder and fitness guru Jake Steinfeld said Fox Sports Net will carry a five-game national television package.
