Anyone happen to see the Pats-Raiders game? Unbelievable. That game was absolutely incredible to watch. The field goal of 45 yards has to be the lowest line drive kick ive ever seen. So, was that play that Brady had a fumble or an incompletion?

Personally, i thought it was a fumble. Plus, i think the replay is inconclusive. And i wanted the Pats to win, but still, that was a fumble. If i was Gruden, i wouldve snapped right there.

**EDIT** How come the "tuck" rule has never been enforced before in the history of football?

I thought it was a fumble. Brady did bring his arm
forward, but it seemed he was faking the pass and
drawing the ball back towards his body when he was
hit. I don't know the rules about what is
considered a pass and what is not. I feel bad for
Gruden. He can't blame the loss on the one play,
although if it was ruled a fumble, the Raiders
would have won. Waiting to see what Gruden says on
Sport

"Somebody took my phone number and called Afghanistan. Afghanistan! I've never talked to anyone in Afghanistan, I don't know nobody in Afghanistan, and even if did know anyone, I wouldn't talk to that Afghan ass for three hours! I won't talk to my daddy for three hours."

I thought it was a fumble. He was just pump faking, but it didn't look like the guy from the Raiders hit the ball or Brady's arm. So the question is...when it's a pump fake and the ball is dropped after it is to late to have been thrown, even though the arm is still going foward, is it fumble or incomplete pass?

Overtime playoff football, the most exciting thing to experience with your clothes on.

Regardless of what happens, this game is final. There will be no overturning the decision after that call, it doesn't happen in this sport. So Oakland fans, don't ask.

And by the way, when the NFL Rules Committee joins this spring to see what they need to change, expect the "passers arm moving forward while ball is knocked lose" rule to be changed.

By rule, and only by rule, the referee had the call right, Tom Brady's arm was moving forward even if ever so slightly, but it is obvious to EVERYONE that he had no intention to throw the ball. He merely followed through just to keep his flow. In fact, the ball may have been moving back, if that's the case, that official should be shot.

It sucks that these referees are so fuking strict to the rulebook. This year it should be called a fumble, and next year it definetely will be a fumble.

Give credit to Vinatieri, he had to kick the kicks, but the NFL will have a lot to say to cover up this shit.

There will be two counts of ass-rape within the next eight days. That official will get anally assaulted tomorrow by everybody. That was an atrocious call, he should be fired. And next Sunday, the Patriots will be butt-raped by the Ravens/Steelers.

And the NFL should just rid itself of Instant Replay if it's not even going to be effective in the biggest stage of all. There wasn't even conclusive evidence one way or another.

The answer to that should be that it is an incomplete pass. But that isnt what happened. The Ref obviously asked himself that very question though, and it was the wrong question to ask. You can tell that the contact to his head by Woodson caused him to fumble the ball.

What is more controversial...this play, or the Music City Miracle?? (which by the way, i still contend that the play was a forward pass)

ah...good point. you don't actually have to hit the arm or ball to cause a fumble.

lol, what do you want him to say..."Yeah, i got nailed and i wasnt looking, i told the ref that if he called it an incomplete pass that id give him a handjob tonight. So obviously, im glad he made his decision."

Of course he will lie. If i was him, id flat out say that i dropped the ball, what can they do...the game is over already. That would just piss everyone so much more.

It was a fumble, but god damn am I glad it was an incomplete pass....screw the f'ing Raiders, AFC EAST RULEZ!!!!

Besides, its Gruden's fault for not getting on his team after they allowed that touchdown. 13 unanswered points in the final two quarters of play is what he should have paid attention to. That guys a dick, he deserves to lose.

"Do I look like I care about your life?" "They cut your balls off and flush em down the toilet." "One side, Red." "I live in Queens. Did you put that together for yourself?" What, do you have a team of monkeys working on this around the clock?"

gruden is such a pussy. all he needs is to make a quarter of a yard to win the game and he punts the ball, just go for it and win the game right there. what are the odds you dont make it?

The game should have never come down to that call, plain and simple. The Raiders went into the 4th quarter with a 10 point lead, and they let the Pats back in it. The defense let up and Brady marched the team downfield for a TD to cut it to 3. And the Raiders could have iced it if they would have converted that 3rd and 1. Gruden's playcalling was atrocious in the 4th, he settled on playing a conservative offense instead of going for the kill. So the Raider fans can cry all they want about a bad call but in the end they did not make a 3rd and 1 to ice it and let Tom Brady pick them apart. So to the Raiders....hope you get back to Oakland in time to get some good tee times.

They were in their own territory dude. If they dont make it, there would be time for the Pats to get a TD and win it, and theyd be in field goal range anyway. So, that makes no sense at all to go for it when you are leading. Plus, if they didnt get it on 3rd and 1, why should they get it on 4th and 1?? Gruden is not an idiot for that at all.

Your in your own territory, you punt the ball thats not even debatable. Whats the chances they wont get the half a yard? Well they didnt get the yard on 3rd down, and in the snow, anything can happen.

You punt the ball and make them go the down the field in the snow, and they had to kick a 45 yard Field Goal in the snow. 9 times out of 10 Vinatieri would have missed that kick, but he made it, and that should have never gotten to that because it was a fumble and if your a Raider fan, I feel for you thats gotta suck.

If you want to kill Gruden, how about knealing on the ball in the Final 22 seconds with all his timeouts left. Your not guaranteed to get the ball in overtime which they did not, throw the ball down the field, if something bad happens, well they are going to have under 20 seconds to get into legit Field Goal range in the snow with no timeouts, I would take my chances.

Dennis Green paid for it in the 98 NFC Championship Game with Minnesota, opting for OT rather than winning it at the end. Jim Mora paid for it last year with Indy against Miami, and now Gruden pays for it.

But the Raiders got screwed, but then again they can look themselves in the mirror. Who told them to lose at home to Arizona? or to lose that last game to the Jets? or to lose to non playoff teams Tennessee and Denver. They win just one of those games, and they are playing at home this week, instead of in the snow in Foxboro.

I understand going for it in that situation is unlikely but once I'd like to see a coach grab the game by the throat especially when that quarter of a yard wins you the game.

does anyone think any other team besides the rams can win this. I cant see any team beating the rams on carpet

If anybody is going to beat the Rams, its going to be Green Bay tomorrow.

The Eagles will get killed. The Ravens wont be able to score enough points to beat the Rams, their defense may contain them but they wont stop them. Same thing with the Steelers although if things went their way they may have a shot. Patriots would get slaughtered.

So if the Rams win tomorrow, they will likely win it all.

Go Packers.

HOLY.....FUCKING......SHIT........

Just waking up from what was possibly the greatest sports bar night in the history of mankind.

I got to Atlas Sports Bar on Lansdowne Street in Boston at about 5:00 and it was packed. The shut the doors at 7:30 for a place with about 2,000 person capacity.

It was packed as hell, and during the second half the game, the crowd in the bar was absolutely retarded. It was so crazy there last night. Beer showers galore during overtime

(and this is the first I'm hearing about whatever the rule was, but unless there's a rule that I don't know about, there was no question that was a fumble. It was a blatant pump-fake that Woodson knocked away as he was bringing the ball back down)

I can't blame Gruden on that one. The snow made every call that much more difficult. If Gannon throws an INT because of the conditions, then the Pats are in great position to kick a FG and win the game. Plus, with only 22 seconds Joe Montana would even have had a difficult time getting them into field goal range.

If you want to see a balsy call, I would have liked to see Jeff Fisher go for 2 in the '00 Super Bowl if the Titans had made it into the endzone on that last play. Make it or miss it, he would be forever known as the ballziest man in football.

Thanks to Brokenjaw for the sigpic

Moss should have given the ball to his coaches to spike, or at least invited them onto the field to take part in the celebration, because they were the ones who made that score possible. But don't tell that to Randy, it would only take away from the glory he believes he deserves for being as great as he is. Click here for the whole article

Now, THIS is funny.

How ironic that the Pats actually coming from behind and winning an improbable game literally causes a heart attack

---

Lifelong New England Patriots fan dies celebrating at stadium

January 22, 2002

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) -- The scene was jubilant -- a dream come true for a loyal New England Patriots fan like Michael Downing.

His beloved team had just capped an improbable comeback to defeat the Oakland Raiders in one of the most memorable playoff games in NFL history.

Just seconds later, as his family cheered amid the bedlam at snowy Foxboro Stadium, Downing collapsed of a heart attack and died.

``It was just like we were so pumped, so high, from them winning, and then we turned around and it was just bang!'' said son Tim Downing. ``We went from ultimate high to ultimate low within a second.''

Downing, 65, had been standing in snowy conditions the entire evening as his Patriots attempted to advance to the AFC championship game. But late in the game at Foxboro, Mass., he started to feel sick and sat down.

With the Patriots trailing 10 points after the third quarter, Downing was convinced a loss was imminent. But the team rallied and, improbably, won in overtime on a field goal by Adam Vinatieri.

Downing's two sons, son-in-law and grandson began to celebrate.

``We celebrated for maybe 10 seconds,'' Tim Downing said. ``I turned around and looked, and he was slumped over.''

A doctor attending the game arrived quickly, followed by emergency medical technicians, but Downing was pronounced dead a short time later at Norwood Hospital.

Family members said Downing was a burly, confident man with a passionate devotion to his family. He died surrounded by people who loved him and cheering for his Patriots, they said.

Saturday's game was the last that will be ever played in Foxboro Stadium. The Patriots' next game is Sunday in Pittsburgh, and next season they will occupy a new stadium under construction next door.
