Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70 | As a solid member of the anti-Mets contingent, I have to say, holy fucking shit, what an offseason. Can you name a better offseason from a baseball team in recent memory? Not only were they able to keep their payroll almost unchanged, they did so by purging old shitty overpaid players, and replaced them with great underrated players that don't make a hell of a lot. Their offense went from a complete joke of Devil Ray proportions, to quite possibly the best in baseball. The pitching staff is better than in it was last year too. Appier was past his prime, and Rusch never had one. Leiter, Astacio, and Chen are a very solid top three, and I still think that Astacio will have a better year than Chan Ho Park. If he's not hurt, he's a steal. Here's hoping for a Sox-Mets series!

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | quote: 2 words: Dallas Green. Green was Mets manager and the team wasn't performing. He couldn't put up with rookie mistakes. To be fair, Cleveland also gave him up for little. Burnitz isn't a great player, but this trade fits mets well. They give up Zeile (off bad year with no position), Agbayani (decent 4th outfielder who is not bad with bat, but not good with glove), Rusch (Expendable 27 yr old lefty who gave up more hits than innings, but pitched well in 2000 when he spotted ball better) Harris ("Bench hero" who made too much for his role here). They get a power hitting lefty hitting OF, who strikes out too much but does get on base via walk, and who plays a pretty good RF. Team fits much better now - Starting lineup has better balance, OF gains a power hitter. Mets give up 27 yr old lefty, but Chen has more upside. If D'Amico ever gets over his injuries, this could be a steal. If not, Mets roster still fits better. Obviously this is what Phillips was thinking when he brought in Estes - look also for Payton and Timo Perez to platoon unless one of them steps forward.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Needless to say ive been wanting D'Amico for many weeks. This deal is great for the Mets, and i believe with us getting rid of Rusch and replacing him with D'Amico, we are now ready to kick some ass. I say the goal this year is to reach 96 wins at least. Hopefully more, but ill stick with 96 to be safe. Go Knicks, Giants, Rangers, and Rutgers Men's Basketball Long Live Psycho Bitch

O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Maybe Selig, should contract the Brewers (his own franchise, who is in much worse shape), than the twins, who at least put a competitive team on the field.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | Selig does not own the Brewers any longer. He can't while he's commisioner. His daughter, Wendy Selig Prieb owns them. And Milwaukee was a profitable franchise last year, thanks to the new Miller Park. American Patriot, Pennsylvania resident, but original NYC listener. O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | quote: OAS, you are so right, that Bud Selig has no say in the Brewers and there is no conflict of interest with his daughter being the new owner. I am positive his daughter does not ask him for input or involve him at all in team matters. I am also sure that when he got the loan from Pohlad's company, that it never even came to mind that he could pay Pohlad back with a favor of contracting the team instead of having him sell it, knowing that he could make more money by contraction than by selling. I am also sure that Bud did not know that the Brewers tv revenue would go way up by contracting the nearest team in the Twins. You are right, Bud Selig is a stand up guy and one of the best commisioners in baseball history. Famous for canceling the World Series in 1994. Great guy.

Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70 | Selig also probably wouldn't orchestrate the Red Sox sale so that the lowest bid gets taken from the Red Sox ownership so the old Marlins owner could buy the Red Sox and sell the Marlins so the Expos owner could sell his team and then the Expos would have no owner and MLB would HAVE TO CONTRACT.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | PDragon, born and raised in Wisconsin. With the exception of being a Braves fan early on before they moved to Atlanta, I have been a Brewer fan since they moved to Milwaukee from Seattle. I skipped school in the 7th grade to go to the Brewers first game when they moved to Milwaukee. I go to every game at Shea when they are in town. Even the 107-degree day this last season. TW, you are wrong. First off does Wendy ask her dad for advice, well we can assume yes. Anything perceived, as a conflict of interest would not happen. Selig has exemplary morals and has but one desire. To have baseball in Milwaukee. The Twins sale does not affect the Brewers market. Milwaukee and the twin cities are 375 miles apart. Wisconsinites are Brewer fans. It is a state-supported team, much like the Packers. I also know Selig personally. Not friends, but I have had some business and civic dealings with him. I am also friends with Tom Trebelhorn, former Brewer and Cub's manager. I had a personal discussion with Selig prior to the Brewers firing Treb. Selig asked my thoughts about it at a dinner function we both attended. He is a caring individual. Remember, he didn't want to be commissioner. He served as acting commissioner and the owners pressured him to take the job permanently. If you knew Selig, you would know a man that just loves Baseball and wants to see it survive.
