Figured i lay out the committee's official stance on this year's baseball season.

1. GO METS! of course...shooting for 94 wins and the NL East title over those damn Braves.

2. Root for Jeff D'Amico and Pedro Astacio to have a combined 32 wins. If they are healthy, that means we will do fine this year.

3. Root against Atlanta at all costs! Atlanta is the biggest scumbag sports city in the United States.

4. Root for Mets to win the World Series. Pretty obvious final objective.

5. Root for the Red Sox to win the AL East (the Yanks are not a high priority, mainly because they have nothing to do with our division, but i want to have an objective against the Yanks because i just dont like them).

The official purpose of the Crack Committee this year is to root for the Mets winning the whole thing, and to be concerned about the Braves and hate them, no questions asked.

2002 Crack Committee Objectives:
1. 94 Wins and NL East Title by the Mets this year
2. Hate the Braves with a passion
3. Jeff D'Amico and Pedro Astacio have combined 32 wins this year
4. Mets win World Series
5. Root for Red Sox to overtake Yanks

Cluster, the Mets have a better chance of having a perfect season than of the Red Soix beating the Yankees.

-The only Met I care about (Fantasy baseball) and I hope he wins the triple crown this year is Jeromy Burnitz. :-D

We were only 2 games out at the end of last season. That division is ours this year.

HAHAHAHAHA....ur pitching staff is in shambles besides Person, and while your offense is good, i dont care enough about the Phills and i aint worried about them enough to put them on the list of objectives.

I'm definitely on board for 1-4, although I think Estes is more critical than D'Amico; D'Amico is a bonus.

I'll live with #5, although I could go either way; it will make life easier around here if Sox could pull it off.

Please oh please can the Phillies trade Rolen to Colorado for Mike Hampton like I heard so Hampton can be as good a pitcher (fantasy player) as he was for the Mets.

After 3 innings Pedro Martinez has given up 8, YES EIGHT, runs. As a loyal Sox fan I politely ask the Crack Committee stop rooting for Boston.

D'amico and Astacio combining for 32 wins? good luck with that one. and as much as i hate the braves, dont think either the mets or phils can take them, especially with the middle of that order. good luck with the wild card.

Well, game 1 is in the books, and i have to say that we are well on our way to 94 wins. I just hope that Vaughn and Burnitz get a fuggin clue at the plate, and that Benitez can come in the game just 1 time and give up 0 runs. Other than that, very encouraging stuff.

As for #5 in the objectives...that is wishful thinking to say the least. I am just rooting for that to happen so that the environment around here for us Mets fans would be a little bit more enjoyable :).

I would, but no one is a legitimate threat in that weak division to the Yanks. Hey, at least they were closer to winning today than the Yanks were. :)

You have a point there Pete. I think though that D'Amico, when healthy, is the #2 pitcher on the team, and not Estes. I am about to amend #2 (#3 in my sig) though on the list of objectives to "All Starting Pitchers have winning records this year." That is the important thing to me. If everyone could be consistant (including Traschel), that would be an extra bonus, rather than having 1 or 2 guys doing the work, and the other 3 sucking ass.

I'll take wins were ever and when ever I can get them.

Estes is that tantalizing pitcher. Kinda like Sandy Koufax -No I don't expect those HOF numbers, but he's got the stuff, he's got the curve - just needs the consistency. There are a lot of pitchers who take time to "get it" - Leiter, Kevin Brown, etc. I just hope it doesn't happen AFTER he leaves the Mets.

D'Amico is a real injury concern based on his past. One injury can be brushed off, but 2 lost years out of the last 4 years is something to be nervous about.

Estes has great stuff, in my opinion D'Amico has better stuff when both are healthy, but the problem with Estes is that he is mentally incompetant sometimes on the mound. For example, he has NEVER beaten the Dodgers, something that is kinda important when he was on the Giants all those years. Even when he won 18 games, he never beat them. He stated this preseason that he knew that if he ever faced the Dodgers again, he would get rocked. That's not exactly the right attitude to have when you are on the mound. Hopefully his mental outlook on things will change somewhat, but in response to Estes being the better pitcher, I have to say D'Amico is, based on ability alone.

However, they are both equally influential in determining how our season goes.
