O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Shame to see him go before he was given 1 more chance to get 500 homers. The man could still crush the ball, even now. As for the HOF issue, i honestly dont know if he will make it or not. I wouldnt vote him in right away, but i do beleve that eventually, he will be in. **EDIT** He's one of only nine players in history with 400 homers and 200 stolen bases. I think that says something, especially since he was hurt all the time. Visit this Website (I didnt feel like copying and pasting the entire story, so here is the site). 1. 94 Wins and NL East Title by the Mets this year 2. Hate the Braves with a passion 3. All 5 Starters have winning records this year 4. Mets win World Series (optional) 5. Have Red Sox finish 10 games in front of the Yankees (optional) Crack Committee Members: Cluster F, Rageparty, Bloody Anus, DiamondDust, JayMohrMassage, HammerSavage, PeterDragon, and 1888RustyTrombone...the force is growing. O&A Board Veteran Registered: Feb. 01 | No, he shouldn't be. A lot of players could have put up amazing numbers if they didn't get hurt. That should never be a factor to consider. Either they have the numbers or they don't. I don't think Conseco should be in the HOF, but with the mediocre nominees they have put up lately, I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the ballot. O&A Board Regular Registered: Jul. 00 | He won't be a first-ballot, but I do think he'll get in eventually. As for the 400-200, Andre Dawson is one of those 9 and didn't get in (yet). Canseco: 462HR-200SB (17 seasons) Dawson: 438-314 (21 seasons) Dave Winfield: 465-223 (22 seasons) If Winfield is in, I don't see any reason Canseco and Dawson won't eventually get in...

O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00 | What may hurt Canseco is that after his Oakland days, he pretty much traveled from team to team and never really established a presence. He was injured alot and was never the dominant player for as long as it should take to warrant Hall of Fame status. He's borderline, but I would say no to him.

Psychopath Registered: Jun. 01 | No, he shouldn't, not a chance. He was always a very one-dimensional player, and his stats more reflect his selfish desire to pad his own numbers than to help his team win (ie in 1998, he hit 46 HR but batted an awful .237, and stole 29 bases but got caught 17 times, a terrible percentage). He was also clueless in the field and a nonfactor in the postseason. A very talented player who should have had a HOF career, but as it turns out, Canseco was just a small step above Howard Johnson. To help decide, the Keltner List: 1. Was he ever regarded as the best player in baseball? 2. Was he the best player on his team? 3. Was he the best player in baseball at his position? Was he the best player in the league at his position? 4. Did he have an impact on a number of pennant races? 5. Was he good enough to continue to play past his prime? 6. Is he the very best player in baseball history who is not in the Hall of Fame? 7. Are most of the similar players in the Hall of Fame? 8. Does the player's numbers meet the Hall of Fame standards? 9. Is there any evidence to suggest the player was significantly better or worse than his stats? 10. Is he the best player at his position that is eligible for the Hall of Fame? 11. How many MVP type seasons did the player have? 12. How many all-star games did he play in? 13. If this were the best player on the team, could you win a pennant? 14. What impact did the player have on history, new rules, etc.? 15. Did he uphold the standards of sportsmanship and character that we are instructed to consider? O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | Bill James, who does a tremendous amount of statistical analysis, has a "Hall of Fame Moniter" index, to predict statistically whether a player is HOF material. Accordingly, Conseco would be borderline HOF; therefore all of the other stuff, such as public perception and too many weak years will probably tilt the scales away from induction. 2002 Crack Committee Objectives: (You gotta believe....) 1. 94 Wins and NL East Title by the Mets this year 2. Hate the Braves with PASSION 3. All 5 Starters have winning records this year 4. Mets win World Series

O&A Board Regular Registered: Aug. 01 | I think he should be, it's not exactly easy to hit 400 homers. Even if it's not close to the record. I'd put him in, he can really hit the ball. I feel bad for him that he couldn't reach 500...

Psychopath Registered: Jun. 01 | A closer look at the stats shows that Canseco is closer to Dave Kingman with some speed than he is to Winfield (HOFer) or Dawson (borderline-but-should-be-HOFer): Yrs G AB R H HR RBI SB CS BB SO BA OPS+ GG Canseco 17 1887 7057 1186 1877 462 1407 200 88 906 1942 .266 131 0 Kingman 16 1941 6677 901 1575 442 1210 85 49 608 1816 .236 115 0 Dawson 21 2627 9927 1373 2774 438 1591 314 109 589 1509 .279 119 8 Winfield 22 2973 11003 1669 3110 465 1833 223 96 1216 1686 .283 129 7 I know this won't line up like I want it to... Psychopath Registered: Mar. 01 | Try this format:
He doesn't even have 2000 hits, didn't get to 500 HRs, was a terrible fielder, was never a really dominant player, and was hurt too much. I don't think he should even be close to getting in.
