O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | St. Louis institution and Hall of Fame Announcer Jack Buck died late Tuesday night at age 77. Buck a St. Louis institution, broadcast legend Besides being the voice of the St. Louis Cardinals for nearly 5 decades, Jack broadcast national sports, everything from Super Bowls to the World Series to pro bowling. Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame's broadcaster's wing in 1987, Buck later became a member of both the Broadcasters' and Radio halls of fame. He was awarded the Pete Rozelle Award by the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1996 and received a lifetime achievement Emmy in 2000. Since I've only lived in NY, I only heard his national broadcasts, but he always had a strong voice and a way with words. It was always a pleasure when he was callling the game. Among those he leaves behind is his son, announcer Joe Buck. 2002 Crack Committee Objectives: (modified version)(You gotta try and believe....) 1.Hate the Braves with PASSION and extreme prejudice 1a. Try and go a week without having to punch a wall in frustration after watching the Mets play 2. 90 Wins and somehow get the Mets into playoffs this year 3. All 5 Starters have winning records this year 3a.Have team understand it is OK to get a hit with runners on base. 4. Mets win World Series (after divine intervention) | ||||
