There were a couple of interesting or disturbing things I wanted to bring up, so here is as good as any.

How the F- did the flyers do this???
The Philadelphia Flyers acquired the No. 4 overall pick in the NHL draft from the Tampa Bay Lightning for forward Ruslan Fedotenko and two picks Friday night. Fedotenko had 17 goals and nine assists in 78 games last season. He had 33 goals and 29 assists in two years with the Flyers.

O'Reilly's No. 24 to be retired
No Bruin has worn jersey No. 24 since Terry O'Reilly retired in 1985. Now we know why. Bruins president Harry Sinden told the Boston Herald on June 19 that the B's will retire O'Reilly's number before their 2002-03 home opener. "He is the first person who comes to mind when someone uses the phrase 'a true Bruin,'" Sinden told the Herald.

My question is When will Jim Schoenfeld's jersey be retired by Sabres? ;)

Wha happened? Where'd Mariusz go? WTF???!!!
The only reason I can think of as to why Milbury would do this is to free up salary for Amonte or some other big name free agent. If that's the case, it might not be terrible afterall, but Chow was a great player, very well-liked Islander, and he will be missed. And I really don't like the Habs too much, so it's gonna be hard to root for him now.
As for the draft, I only saw the first 10 or so, looked pretty good. I'm glad Nystrom's kid was #10, if he's as good as they're saying he should kick some major ass very soon. Good news for Calgary.

Long live the Gonzo sigs! Thanks Amy!

Milbury was trying to get rid of him to anyone who'd take him. They didn't feel he fit with Yashin.

Nice to see Nystrom go high(Ironically in spot that was originally Rangers), and another LI kid, Chris Higgins of Yale & Smithtown, went to Canadiens soon afterwards.

Milbury definitely looking to clear salary to pick up someone more to his liking. Can you say Fleury ;)

Ok, hopefully the Rangers act quickly and decisively. Kasparitis and Holik = more gooder Rangers team. And we'd better keep Mikey in the net. It makes no sense to sign CuJo to a long term deal, especially since we have Blackburn, who could be ready to start for us in 2 years.

Knowing the Rangers, we'll probably ditch Richter and sign 40 year old Chris Chelios to the team, and then halfway through the year, theyll promise to use the young, inexperienced guys when we are last place. Damn i hope we have a good offseason.

Thanks to Austin for the pic

This wouldn't be the worst thing, unless they also sign cujo to big money.
Blackburn has to play at least 1/3 of the games next year. Chelios played great last year, and unlike Leetch, he can teach the young D-men to play tough and with heart. If they sign Chelios for 2 years and also play Kloucek, and Tutin or Mottau, they be making progress.

I do think however Chelios will go back to Detroit.

By the way, Messier will be back for another season.

Will anyone make a run at Jarome Iginla? is he worth the 5 picks?

HOLIK CROSSES HUDSON TO MSG
The Rangers inked free agent center Bobby Holik to a contract tonight, bringing the two-time Stanley Cup champion to Broadway.
New York Rangers President and GM Glen Sather announced tonight that the club has signed unrestricted free agent center Bobby Holik. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. “We are pleased to add a player of Bobby’s caliber to our roster,” said Sather. “He is one of the league’s premiere two-way centermen, combining superlative size and passion for the game with an intense desire to win and excellent leadership qualities.” Holik, 31, appeared in 81 matches with the New Jersey Devils last season, registering 25 goals and 29 assists for 54 points, along with 97 penalty minutes. The 6-4, 230-pound center is a two-time NHL All-Star and was a key member of New Jersey’s 1995 and 2000 Stanley Cup championship teams.

Robert Lang also signed with Capitals, following Adam Oates with Ducks.

No Cujo in Ranger Blue.
Report: Red Wings to announce Joseph signing
The Detroit Red Wings, who saw goaltender Dominik Hasek retire last week after leading them to the Stanley Cup, will announce the signing of free agent goalie Curtis Joseph today, a team source said.

Joseph, who played for Toronto last season, had not yet signed a contract but had agreed to join the Stanley Cup champions, according to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

More great news for the Rangers that CuJo signed with Detroit. Now hopefully Sather will realize that he must re-sign Richter.

Everything I read/hear says Sather wants to sign Richter, but as John Dellapina puts it "he doesn't want to bid against himself. He is not looking to simply reward Richter, but to pay him his fair value". This could be a big gamble, but we will see. Remeber Holik & Richter share agents.

Other "news" - Yesterday Milbury was on MSG Angles, and he told Al Trautwig that Isles Kasparitis is asking for too much for Isles.
Rangers & Avs supposedly looking to make him an offer, although Dellapina said Rangers had not yet made the offer.

Latest Ranger Acquisition:
KASPARAITIS LANDS ON BROADWAY

The Rangers signed free agent defenseman Darius Kasparaitis to a contract this afternoon, bringing his physical, hard-hitting style to MSG.
On the heels of signing free agent center Bobby Holik Monday night, Rangers President and GM Glen Sather announced this afternoon that the team has signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Darius Kasparaitis. The 29-year old Lithuanian native appeared in 80 matches with Colorado and Pittsburgh last season, registering two goals and 12 assists for 14 points, along with 142 penalty minutes. The 5-11, 205-pounder ranked second in the NHL with 373 hits last season and will immediately add a gritty, physical presence on the Blueshirt blueline in 2002-03. Kasparaitis is a three-time Olympian, appearing with the Commonwealth of Independent States at the 1992 Olympic Games (gold medal) and with the Russian Olympic squad in 1998 (silver medal) and 2002 (bronze medal).

Wow, so far the Rangers have completed 2 of the 3 objectives i said they had to complete to be a playoff team next year. Im feeling pretty good as a Ranger fan right now. Now we need to resign Richter, and we'll be fine.

I hope all this works out but I have big doubts. This is the same old rangers, they dont make the playoffs so they sign every big name free agent under the sun then when the season starts these free agents underperform bec what made them overachieve was the desire to land a big payday and once they get it they lose the desire and underachieve. The list of these players is long (Robitaille, Nedved, Fleury, Kamensky, Quintal, etc) then the players become so awful and the rangers cant trade them bec no other team wants their contract. I'd rather have the Lundmark's and the Mottau's get big playing time. This franchise needs players with hunger and desire, players who are out to prove themselves. I hope I'm wrong about this and the rangers win it all next year

They are already a playoff team, if they pull off the trifecta and re-sign Richter, and if god willing they can also get a Guerin or Amonte. This team is one of the Top Teams in the Eastern Conference.

Wow, what a couple of days! Cutting Fleury and Berard gave us some extra money. Holik and Kasparaitis are good acquasitions. It was funny when Kasp was talking to the media over his phone and he said that even when he was an Islander he liked the Rangers and thought they were the REAL New York team...:-D I'll post that conversation up when I find it somewhere on the internet...
