(AP) - Ted Williams, the Boston Red Sox revered and sometimes reviled ``Splendid Splinter'' and baseball's last .400 hitter, has died at age 83. Williams, who suffered a series of strokes and congestive heart failure in recent years, was taken Friday to Citrus County Memorial Hospital ``where he was pronounced deceased,'' said sheriff's department spokesman Lt. He was a Marine Corps jet fighter pilot who missed three full seasons during World War II (1943-45). Flying alongside astronaut John Glenn, Williams returned to service as a combat pilot in Korea. Try and go a week without having to punch a wall in frustration after watching the Mets play 2. 90 Wins and somehow get the Mets into playoffs this year 3. I wish that I could have seen him play to fully appreciate what he brought to the game. Imagine if he had not served the war, what his all time numbers would have looked like. Unbelievable.
