O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Shortstop would miss 10-16 weeks after surgery Associated Press FORT MYERS, Fla. – A doctor who examined Nomar Garciaparra said surgery is the best option to relieve severe pain in the All-Star shortstop's right wrist. Garciaparra "He was able to tolerate it, and he is a very tough-minded individual to tolerate it. I think he has reached a stage where he can't tolerate it anymore," Dr. Frank McCue, a hand specialist at the University of Virginia, told The Associated Press on Monday. "Swinging the bat is one of the hardest things on the wrist," McCue said. Garciaparra and the Red Sox will decide whether to have the surgery, which general manager Dan Duquette has said could sideline the shortstop between 10-16 weeks. Duquette previously said it was doubtful Garciaparra would be ready for opening day. The absence of the two-time batting champion could be devastating to the team's playoff chances. "I don't even want to talk about it," pitching ace Pedro Martinez said last week. Garciaparra has what was diagnosed as a split in the tendon that runs from his fingers to his right wrist. He originally was injured late in the 1999 season, when he was hit by a pitch from Baltimore's Al Reyes. He played with the injury last season and won his second consecutive AL batting title. But he was sidelined when the wrist bothered him early in training camp. McCue said Garciaparra could continue to play with the injury if he received cortisone injections every day. "I would say that would not be the best thing to do," McCue said. Should Garciaparra opt for surgery, McCue said, it would be at least three weeks before he could exercise and another three weeks before he could begin hitting and throwing. Duquette said Lou Merloni or Mike Lansing would replace Garciaparra Visit this Website METS will go ALL THE WAY THIS YEAR !!!!!!!!!!! Yankees & the Braves SUCK !!!!!

O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Did you read the SI cover story? It talked about how intense his offseason training was. He not only lifted weights but practiced some fielding, batting shit too so its basically just bad luck I think that it just acted up now... Lansing's just so so, and merloni's nothing special, so who knows who saves the season for us. BSG's is very entertaining... Long Live Syndication Underground!
