Psychopath Registered: Nov. 00 | There's a possibility that Islanders and Dragons Arena Football owner Charles Wang might buy the Vancouver Grizzlies and move them to Long Island. For all the people from the island, would you stop following the Knicks and support this team? O&A Board Regular Registered: May. 00 | It won't happen. The team would have to pay the knicks extra for going into their territory and besides who would move into Nassau when it's falling apart? Gulotta won't even start to get funding for a new arena. So see the isles moving pretty soon. -I'm really Broadbandnigga!-

O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00 | The Grizzlies arent coming here. Like said above nobody would even remotely think about coming to Long Island until they build a new arena and replace that crap called the Coliseum. ANd I doubt any true Knicks fan is going to jump ship to become a Long Island Grizzlies fan.

Psychopath Registered: Nov. 00 | That makes sense, one of the most successful businessmen in the world (Charles Wang) who's from Long Island would move the team somewhere else. Makes perfect sense to me. Anyway, Wang would use the NBA team as a bargaining chip to get a new Arena built. Wang has already said he expects the new arena to be complete by 2005. He isn't looking or the support of the county, but local businessmen who would be more willing to fund the construction of a new arena if an NBA team was involved. I think a Long Island NBA team would get adequate support. There are a lot of people who feel the Knicks are too corporate and distant and are thirsty for an alternative basketball team. To answer your question, no I don't play for the Dragons, I'm just a really big Arena Football fan and I'm a whore for plugging them. O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Also, the NBA Does Not Want To Have 3 NBA Teams in the area. It has worked, somewhat in the NHL, but the Devils even though they are the Pinnacle Team in the NHL, are given no attention by the NY Media. The third NBA Team won't receive much either. I look for the Grizzlies to go to St. Louis. They have a buyer and a new arena in the Kiel Center. Also, I have heard Columbus being mentioned as a possibility as well. With the success of the Blue Jackets at the Beautiful Nationwide Arena, the NBA wouldn't mind the move. Also places I have heard: Raleigh, Cincinatti, New Orleans, Montreal, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, or Tampa. Rangers Suck!

Psychopath Registered: Nov. 00 | Well, the front runners right now are Vegas, Hartford, New Orleans, San Jose, and Long Island. The only cities that have arenas with the capacity to hold NBA crowds are Hartford, Long Island, and San Jose. Vegas would be cool, but the Thomas and Mack Center only seats 12,000 and David Stern is a pussy and wouldn't want a team in Vegas. Hartford has an adequate arena, but Connecticut leans towards supporting NY teams usually. New Orleans really has no history of supporting any sport, let alone basketball. If it were to go by money, Long Island would get it. If it went by the best facility, San Jose would get it. If it went by excitement, Vegas would get it. The Knicks WILL NOT stop an NBA team from coming to Long Island. Knicks/Rangers big wig Charles Dolan is neighbors with Islanders owner Charles Wang and they get along great, and it's a documented fact that the Knicks would welcome a Long Island team. If they don't move to Long Island, it won't be because they're too close to the Nets and Knicks, it would probably be because of the Coliseum. However, I don't see the CEO of Computer Associates getting outbid, so I consider Long Island the front-runner. O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | You can basically throw Hartford out the window. They couldn't support the Whalers, in a Hockey oriented state, there is no way they are going to support a basketball team. Long Island is not a possibility no matter how much you want it. New Orleans could be a possibility. Rangers Suck!

Psychopath Registered: Nov. 00 | Sorry Spiderbob, I gotta disagree. Long Island is very possible as long as there is the guarantee for a new arena (And there is.) If you look at it, they would get the team by process of elimination. David Stern is very old school, and wouldn't allow a Vegas team. New Orleans, Vegas, Memphis, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnatti all have tiny arenas (New Orleans Arena seats 10,000.) There are a few places you could find basketball on TV. Fox Sports, MSG Metro, or News 12 could broadcast the games (News 12 has done it before.) Any problem you give me about a Long Island team, I can tell you the solution they have planned or are in the process of carrying out. Hartford did an OK job of supporting the Whalers, but in the end it came down to money. In a government town like Hartford, it's hard to find corporate sponsorship. You look at the Hartford Civic Center. That was in so much trouble that MSG was able to jump in and buy it for a song. New York Dragons Arena Football!!! O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Long Island is NOT getting an NBA team. Face it. There are other places I'd think they'd go first. For one, Columbus, OH just built a beautiful arena, the Nationwide Arena, and is virtually at capacity every night. What about STL. A great sports town, had NBA before but it would work now, They have a new arena and they would do well there. Tampa too. Rangers Suck!

O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | LOL COLD. Anyway, Dragon, here's a story from ESPN.com about the Grizzlies. Monday, February 26, 2001 Heisley all but rules out St. Louis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Associated Press St. Louis apparently is out of the running to get the NBA's Vancouver Grizzlies, leaving New Orleans, Anaheim and Louisville as possible new homes for the financially troubled team. Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley told the Vancouver Sun over the weekend that it was "not a real high probability" his team would move to St. Louis. The owner of the NHL St. Louis Blues tried to buy the Grizzlies for $200 million last year, with the intention of moving the team to St. Louis, before the NBA intervened and the franchise was sold to Heisley for $160 million. In St. Louis, the Grizzlies would have played in the Savvis Center, where the primary tenant is the Blues and would have been subject to lease conditions set by Blues owner Bill Laurie. Heisley, who met last week with Laurie, said the Blues owner made low-ball offer for a percentage of the team that was not on scale with the proposal he made last year. Laurie declined comment. Heisley is expected to visit Anaheim on Tuesday. The team would use the Arrowhead Pond, where the primary tenant is the NHL's Mighty Ducks. Last week, Heisley met in New Orleans with government and business leaders about possibly relocating the franchise to the New Orleans Arena. "All things are possible at this point," said Bill Curl, spokesman for SMG, the company that manages the arena and the Superdome. Curl said the New Orleans group has not heard from Grizzlies officials since Friday. "It's on a very fast track, but we're not in a panic mode," Curl said. "We have to do it, but we have to do it quickly." Heisley is supposed to notify the NBA by March 1 about which city he intends to move to, but he can ask for an extension. "The assumption isn't that March 1 is the drop-dead date," Curl said. The New Orleans group is awaiting information from the Grizzlies regarding specific price scales for luxury suites, club seats and general admissions. Rangers Suck!
