We beat up on the Braves??

It took us 19 Innings to score 1 Run against them.

In the last 37 Innings, the Mets have scored 3 Runs!!

Thats 1 run every 13.3 innings.

Oh and no the Mets didnt need Sheffield.

Question: Why can't the Mets but a run?

Answer: Cause you can't buy 'em. You score them. And you can't score when you don't hit with runners in scoring position.

Fundamentals people.

And I also agree with Fez. HA!

Taking a pitch or two would not hurt. Every other batter swings at the first pitch. It's not that bad if you are hitting the ball hard, but to swing at the other pitch and pop up the other way is inexcusable.

Francine - I had this same discussion last night.

Oh no, we can't trade for Sheffield because then we'd have to give up Jay Payton, an injury prone 2nd year player in his late 20's. And that wouldn't be smart, now would it?!

You've got a point. Most of the batters are very impatient and free-swinging. Granted, in this era of the long ball, patience doesn't always pay off, but some little ball will at least get you more then 3 runs in 37 innings.

Oh of course not, and the Mets cant give up on Escobar, because hes gonna be the next Ken Griffey Jr.

Its getting down right sickening watching this team right now. But to be fair, things should get better once Benny and Timo come back, but thats still a week away.

God, things are bad when your offense is waiting for a jump start from Benny and Timo.

METS FANS UNITE! I know things are looking pretty grim, but let's not give up on them. "Never say die!" "You gotta believe!" I believe . . . .

Mets will win ball games when our veteran hitters start hitting in the clutch! If you stand around waiting for Homeruns and Rey Ordonez to score runs then we've got a problem. But we'll get back on track, its only a matter of time.

Who Let the Mets Out, Hoo Hoo!

They have a better chance of buying a vowel as guests on Wheel of Fortune than they have of buying a run.

Not the Mets Game thread so free to bash here.

Teenweek, maybe you should wait until the Yankmes win a series against a good team before you start bashing the Mets. The Yankmes may be doing better than the Mets right now, but they still have some major kinks in their armor. Not every team has the luxury of starting the season against one of the weakest teams in baseball. Remember, it wasn't good baseball that got you into the playoffs last year - it was dumb luck. The crappy numbers the Yankmes put up last year was good enough for 3rd place in any other division in MLB. Frankly, I don't see them doing any better this year - I think you're looking at the end of your "Dynasty". So the Mets aren't doing great right now so what - but neither are you.

Well, thats partially true. It was a combination of them doing well for most of the season and the luck to get them through their pitiful finish that got them into the playoffs. But of course, you can't say that it was "dumb luck" that got them through the playoffs and won the world series for them.

Yeah, but what team has a perfect team? And, I can see some minor flaws, but I'm not quite sure what these major kinks you speak of are:

With Clemens, Mussina, Pettite, and Hernandez, their starting pitching is second-to-none.

Their defense doesn't make the spectacular plays, but Martinez, Brosius, and O'Neill are more than adaquate at their postitions; Posada is one of the better catchers in baseball; Jeter, and Williams are both gold-glove caliber; Soriano is doing a better-than-expevted job at second (especially considerring he's a shortstop); and Knoblauch is doing a great job in left.

Their lineup is not the best in baseball by any means, but Jeter, O'Neill, Williams, and Posada should all have great BAs, and all of them are capable of hitting 30 HRs. Knoblauch is still one of the better lead-off men in baseball; if he plays regularly, Justice should hit 35 HRs with a decent BA; I'll admit that Martinez and Brosius are on the decline, but Tino should still drive in 100, and Brosius is there more for his defense then his offense. Soriano is a major question mark though.

The bullpen, is definately weak. With the loss of Nelson, they don't have a reliable situational righty. But, Mendoza is a great long reliever, Stanton is a great situational lefty, and Rivera is absolutely the best.

Sorry to ramble, but, as you can tell, I feel very strongly that the Yankees have a good chance of winning it all again. Of course, you never know. Alot of things happen during a long season--injuries, slumps, trades--but I think, come October, we're going to come out on top again.

Mi1o Yambag - I always appreciate it when someone can intelligently defend their team. I haven't seen that in a while.

But no matter how much I hate the Yankees (and man do I hate anything in pinstripes), I really can't say many bad things about the way they play baseball, they do have a good team. However, Yankee Fans this year are in for something they haven't seen in a loooooong time - a Playoff Race. Things have come so easily for so long - I hope they're ready for it. Met fans can tell you - we're used to it. It never comes easy. This season is certainly no exception. Glad we won yesterday though - all journeys start with a first step! Let hope our journey out of the gutter started yesterday! LETS GO METS! LIVE OR DIE!

Just because Boston and Toronto are off to good starts, doesnt mean they are going to keep it up.

I dont really see there being any Pennant Race there and the Yankees will probably win that Division by 15 games.

I couldn't agree more. In fact, I really hope that there is a good pennant race this year. It'll be really fun to see because, as huge of a Yankee fan a am, I'm an much bigger baseball fan.
