O&A Board Veteran Registered: Feb. 01 | SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Barry Bonds couldn't wait for it to be over -- and he didn't have to wait long. ``I was getting stressed,'' he said about his impending milestone. ``Everyone around me was making me nervous.'' On Tuesday night, Bonds hit his 500th home run, just one game after getting his 499th. And he did it with a splash. Bonds' two-run, eighth-inning drive off Terry Adams (0-1) went into McCovey's Cove, leading the Giants over the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2. Bonds became the 17th player to reach 500. The three-time MVP and nine-time All-Star watched the ball for a moment, then jumped for joy before rounding the bases. He pounced on home plate with both feet as Pacific Bell Park sparkled with flashbulbs. ``I knew my wife wouldn't be nervous any more and could relax,'' Bonds said. ``Now my dad won't be in my ear saying, `Relax, relax, relax.''' Bonds embraced Rich Aurilia, who tripled to start the inning, and his father, former major leaguer Bobby Bonds. His wife Liz ran to his arms. The left-field fence opened up and former Giants Willie Mays and Willie McCovey -- also members of the 500 club -- were whisked by a golf cart to a ceremony at home plate. ``First of all, I'd like to thank my parents for having me,'' a breathless Bonds told the crowd. ``I want to thank Willie Mays for being here and Willie McCovey. Most of all, thanks to all of you, I love you and I'm proud to be in a San Francisco Giants uniform.'' In left field, the wall was peeled back to reveal the words ``Bonds 500'' in tall orange letters. ~Matt/Froy from Jersey Official Protector of Gay Marco & SwampJunk...if he ever decides to post.

Psychopath Registered: Dec. 00 | Great job by Barry (even if that HR did beat my Dodgers). Also of note, he is only 28 stolen bases from the 500 mark in that category as well. -------------------------- E-Mail me HERE AIM ME AT : OA AfdB
