O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | From the NY POST: April 20, 2001 -- TORONTO - According to a source close to the Dodgers, Brian Cashman is high on the list of names the underachieving club will look at when searching for Kevin Malone's permanent replacement. Malone resigned as GM under pressure yesterday and the Dodgers installed former Mets pitching coach Dave Wallace as the interim GM. "Brian's contract is up at the end of the year and he will draw interest from the Dodgers if he isn't signed by the Yankees," the source told The Post. "The Yankees should act quickly because the Dodgers like everything about him." When Indians GM John Hart announced recently this was his last year in Cleveland, many assumed Hart was going to LA. However, Dodger CEO Bob Daly is wary of hiring a high-profile guy like Hart after the camera-friendly Malone received too much attention. Cashman, 31, fits the bill as far as low profile since he is ego-free, relies heavily on scouts, managers and coaches for input on personal decisions and is a tireless worker. It was his perseverance that led to the Yankees getting David Justice from the Indians last year, a move that saved the Yankees' season. With Cashman as the GM, the Yankees have won three straight World Series titles. George Steinbrenner hasn't addressed the contracts of Cashman or Joe Torre, whose deal is up after this season, too. O&A Board Regular Registered: Feb. 01 | Cashman isn't dumb enough to go from the 3-peat champions to go to a team that doesn't have much of a chance of the playoffs with the division they are in. Cashman in a likelyhood will stay with the Pinstripes. Sorry to all u Dodger fans. I have graduated from Sephiroth's school for newbies, also thanx for the sig pic. Psychopath Registered: Dec. 00 | As a Dodgers fan i'd LOVE for them to hire Cashman. But I don't see any reason why the Yankees wouldn't do whatever he wants to keep him, or why he'd want to leave NY. Unfortunately, i see LA hiring Hart. -------------------------- E-Mail me HERE AIM ME AT : OA AfdB

O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00 | You never know, god for bid if Cashman makes the wrong move this year, and the Yankees dont win the World Series, or better yet dont get there, or make the playoffs, you know the Boss wont be happy with him, and maybe Cashman will want to go sowewhere where he doesnt have to deal with Steinbrenner and he can get some respect

O&A Board Regular Registered: Feb. 01 | Everyone knows that Cashman has made som great desicions in the past but you are probably right Steinbrenner might just get rid of Cashman if he screws up. The only reason they kept Petitte when he was having troulble in the past was because Torre went to bat for him, but Cashman doesn't have that option.
