Police: Camby's sister held hostage

SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. (AP) -- Police rescued two people held hostage early Monday at the home of NBA player Marcus Camby's mother, but a third person, believed to be Camby's sister, was still being held, police said.
Police were called to a home on Miller Road about 3:30 a.m. where a man armed with a knife was holding people against their will, according to Sgt. Matthew Reed.
The situation grew out of a domestic call about 3:30 a.m., Reed said.
Officers gained access to the home and found a man holding a knife to a woman's throat. Police then opted to withdraw because the suspect demanded it.
Camby himself, a center with the New York Knicks, arrived at the scene shortly before 8 a.m., according to police.
Reed confirmed the home was that of Camby's mother, Janice. He said police believe the woman being held hostage is one of Camby's sisters and said the suspect was known to the family.
Two others inside the home -- Camby's mother and another sister -- were rescued a few hours after the standoff began, according to Reed.
The situation remained a standoff more than five hours after police first arrived at the scene.
Reed said officers who first arrived at the home saw blood on the woman being held, but said the injuries did not appear serious or life-threatening.
Police negotiators had established a dialogue with the suspect and were talking to him five hours after the standoff began.
