O&A Board Veteran Registered: Feb. 01 | Yeah, we're pretty fucked now... MILWAUKEE (TICKER) -- A rough April got even worse for the New York Mets. The team on Thursday placed ace Al Leiter on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Saturday, due to a strained left elbow. The lefthander will be eligible to return on May 6 when the Mets host the Arizona Diamondbacks. Leiter, 35, was diagnosed with the injury after he was hammered for eight runs -- matching a career-high -- and six hits over three innings in a 9-5 loss at Cincinnati last Friday. The loss of Leiter forced the Mets to recall Brett Hinchliffe from Class AAA Norfolk on Wednesday and he will start on Thursday as the Mets hope to avert a three-game sweep at Milwaukee. The defending National League champions are off to an 8-12 start and ahead of only the Florida Marlins (8-13) in the East Division. They have already been swept in three-game series by the Montreal Expos and Cincinnati Reds. New York's best pitcher since he was acquired from Florida in February 1998, Leiter compiled a 46-26 record with the Mets in three seasons. But he is 0-3 with a 5.87 ERA this season, despite pitching well in two of his four starts. On Opening Day, Leiter allowed just two runs in seven innings, but did not figure in the decision in in New York's 6-4 win at Atlanta. On April 8, Leiter surrendered four runs and 10 hits in five-plus innings in a 5-2 loss at Montreal. In his next start, Leiter suffered a hard-luck 1-0 loss to the Reds on April 14, yielding a run and six hits in eight innings. The Mets recalled left-handed reliever Tom Martin from Norfolk to replace Leiter on the roster. ~Matt/Froy from Jersey Official Protector of Gay Marco & SwampJunk...if he ever decides to post.

Psychopath Registered: Apr. 01 | It definitely does suck that the mets dont have leiter. i just watched the first 2 innings of hitchcliff or whatever his name is. He is getting rocked. the mets better count on losing whenever he is at the mound. unless they go to their bull pen after the first inning. Check this Out

O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00 | We would of been better off with Heathcliff then whoever this guy is. I would say that somebody else will take the next start, cut this guy now. Where's Grant Roberts? ANd what does the unbalanced schedule have to do with us being bad right now?
