| O&A Board Veteran Registered: Feb. 01  | IRVING, TEXAS (TICKER) -- Veteran receiver Carl Pickens apparently has decided to retire, one month after signing a contract with the Dallas Cowboys. Steve Zucker, the agent for Pickens, told the Dallas Morning News that his client has decided to end his career due to a lingering hamstring injury. "He's going to pack it in," Zucker said in Wednesday's edition of the newspaper. "Carl really wanted to play for the Cowboys, but his hamstring just wouldn't let him. He gave it all he had." Pickens did not attend any of the club's first three mini-camps. He was signed to a one-year deal worth $500,000 that did not include a signing bonus. The 31-year-old Pickens was a major disappointment in his only season with the Tennessee Titans and was released for salary-cap purposes last month. He had just 10 catches for 242 yards last season, missing seven games with the hamstring problem. Pickens' decision would be a blow for a team that finally appeared to be getting healthy at the receiver position. Joey Galloway and Rocket Ismail -- the Cowboys' starting wide receivers last season -- both suffered season-ending knee injuries in 2000. Both are expected to be ready for this season. A two-time Pro Bowler, Pickens spent the first eight years of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals. He is the Bengals' all-time leader with 530 catches for 6,887 yards and 63 touchdowns. I love the boys and all, but i think i would retire if they signed me too! They probably would have tried to rope him into playing QB! | O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Tony Banks, Ponderous! Being a Cowboy Hater, im loving this, but they are really better off playing Wright or a young quarterback that they can develop over time. Banks couldn't cut it on a team with one of the best defenses in history, i can only imagine how bad he will play with significantly less talent on the Cowboys.:):):):):) | ||||
