| It's now clear the Isles will sign a big-time free agent this off-season. Who do you think it will be? Jagr? Yashin? Forsberg? Lindros? I'd like to see Yashin. He's young and will grow into a major player as he ages. Lindros has shown he has no loyalty and Jagr is a little too old. Whoever the Isles sign, it should be a young star who's well adjusted to the NHL. The best players who fill that category are Yashin and a center from the Bruins whose name escapes me. |

| Unfortunatly, who ever it is, they will have to over-pay because no one wants to come here anymore. Geeeez, what I would not do for a Gillies to Trottier to Bossy goal right about now.

| They may make a play for Jagr, but it's probably more likely that they'll end up picking Yashin.
Yashin's a pretty heartless player who likes to disappear in the playoffs though... and then there's Carol Alt saying that "Yashin was treated like a slave" by the Senators... uh yeah... a multi-million-fucking dollar slave! Oy vey!
Seems like Isbister will be on his way out, but he should be a good one. The Islanders just have to pick their core and grow it. Right now they're pulling a Montreal Expos and just acting as a farm team to the rest of the league.
I think the Flyers are after Zdeno Chara, they were pursuing him at the deadline.
You should definitely see some activity right before the upcoming draft, it should be some stage setting.
As another intersting note, Jagr's agent has apparently told him to stick around in the country and not go back to the Czech Republic in the next couple of weeks so that he could "have his picture taken in his new jersey."
If you could get Jagr anything's possible with that young core.

| If the isle get rid of Chara I will kill Milbury myself.
They need a scorer on the wing & can use a center
They have a goalie who needs a little more confidence. After he won a couple game last year he started playing better.

| Well, we should be seeing a lot of activity in the next two weeks or so. Pittsburgh keeps putting out the signals that a Jagr deal is imminent.
Also interesting to note today - the Flyers signed John LeClair to a three year deal and I think they'll be looking to A) pick up a center like Roenick, Fedorov, or Peca and B) trade Lindros
The Islanders just need a little stability. They need to make some moves this off-season and then build from there.
With all the youth they have, I am afraid they made a mistake in not hiring Ted Nolan to coach. He had such great success with that young Sabre team.

| Despite the heavy pockets of the owners, big names such as Sakic or Jagr won't want to play here on LI. Even if they throw all of the money in the world at them they don't want to stay with a team that is forever rebuilding. A big name player doesn't want to play in a decrepit buidling that is more than half empty except when the Rangers or Mario comes around.
Unless someone wants to take that challenge, I don't think they'd want to be here. It's very boring anyway. Of course they will be swayed by the blueshirts but we are all familliar with the Boneheaded moves the Garden brass has made! |

Islander fans are getting their hopes up. Thinking they are getting a superstar, No way!
The only one I can MAYBE!! Seeing going there is Yashin, possibly Roenick. But I wouldnt bet on either one.
Jagr and Sakic have NO CHANCE! Of going to the Islanders, so stop dreaming.

| Rowelentless, that's exactly why they would want to come to Long Island. The promise that a franchise, a community, and a brand-new arena will be built around this star. You tell a player straight-up that they will be the New York Islanders club, and pay them as such, and good things will follow. It worked initially with Salo, Palffy, and Hamrlik. Palffy's problem was he wanted $, and Salo wanted to win. These owners have the cash to hang on to a disenfranchised player. Mark my words, the Isles will sign a big-time free agent this summer and they will have something to play for in the spring of 2001. I'm not saying they'll make the playoffs right away, but they won't be in the cellar again.
The Dragons are on pace to sell out just about every game, so I decided to stop being a HUA!!! |

| the only hope for the Isles to pick up a star is via a trade. They are Twins of the NHL...all they need is a couple of years to stick with the core group that they have. Milbury cannot give in to the temptation of attracting a major star.
As long as they keep Terreri around to log most of the minutes to bring Dipietro along...they could be in good shape.

| Well, I'm a Canadiens fan, but I like to know what's going on around the league (and I can sympathize with you Isles guys as my team was once a dynasty and it now can't even seem to make the playoffs).
Some small adjustments were made by the Isles from what I see on the wire. They did sign Marko Kiprusoff though. He's a Finnish defenseman who originally played for Montreal. He played last year in Switzerland, but I always remember him as being a great little puck-carrying defenseman. They seem to be stocking up there though, I'm really thinking that they're going to be dealing Chara.
I also wonder if they're going to go after Lindros? (Eric, not Brett)
And finally, that Jagr thing won't die, I keep seeing NY come up in any article I read. It also sounds like Jaromir wouldn't mind coming to the Isles either. He's not at all insisting that he's traded to a winner, he just wants his paycheck. I admire that :)

| The first thing they need to do is drop Milbury. He's worthless. This team should have been at least in the middle of the NHL by now. But he's screwed that up too. He keeps on trading and trading and doesn't gain any ground at all. It's basically the same guys only younger. I mean, what's really the difference between Luongo and DiPietro? Not a whole hell of a lot.
That being said, I think that the best choice at this point is Jason Allison. He's an excellent center who would probably cost little more than the 2nd overall pick. The Bruins don't want to pay him what he's worth (big shock there) and Allison was a big supporter of Laviollette getting the B's head coaching job. While that pick would be good for the Isles, Milbury can't afford to sit around and pretend that he's building anymore. The two foreign guys need results. And Yashin would cost too much money and player wise. He's not worth Spezza and Connelly. Plus, do the Isles really need Carol Alt polluting the Colleseum with her stupidity?
And there is no chance at Lindros or Sakic. Stop the pipe dreaming now. Get Allison, sign a greedy free agent and see what happens.
And please Terreri to help break in DiPietro. Just throw DiPietro in there. Terreri sucks.

Isles at top of list to acquire Yashin from Sens
Canadian Press
OTTAWA
With Alexei Yashin set to become a restricted free agent July 1, the Ottawa Senators will entertain offers - and likely already have - before the June 22-23 NHL draft in Sunrise, Fla.
Since returning from Russia, the Sens' centre and his agent, Mark Gandler, haven't heard from the club regarding Yashin's future.
Yashin, who made $3.6 million US last season, was blamed by many as the main reason the Senators were swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The newspaper report today indicated that Senators GM Marshall Johnston has already held preliminary talks with Islanders GM Mike Milbury, who owns the No. 2 overall pick in the draft. A pick Ottawa would use to likely select Windsor Spitfires centre Jason Spezza.
That pick, however, would have to be part of a package which would include one of New York's young prospects - possibly winger Brad Isbister - and another player who would be able to help the Senators immediately.

| Well Yashin will be traded and I doubt that there are too many teams interested in him. It's all a bunch of smoke and mirrors trying to hype the interest in him. I mean after all there are better players available via trade and free agency that are less moody.
I still think the Isles should just trade for Allison. He's a gritty player who already knows the coach and would probably just cost the Spezza pick.
Damn the Isles sure have lost a lot of ground since I used to play as them in Stanley Cup Table hockey. That game ruled.

| There are a lot of teams who would be interested in Spezza - the Isles will hopefully use that position to their advantage, but as many have said, Milbury isn't always the best evaluator of talent.

| Yeah obviously a lot of teams will be interested but I doubt the bidding will get any higher than it is now. Plus, I heard rumblings that he's fallen a little in the reports. I still think he will go second though but the pick isn't worth as much as it was in say October or so.
And the thing is that everyone knows that Milbury has to trade this pick so that lowers the value a little more. So, all Milbury can hope for is a bidding war to break out which I don't think is too too likely.
I'm thinking the negotiations with Ottawa are going something like this:
Ottawa GM (don't know the name of the guy who replaced Dudley): So, we got a deal? Yashin for the two pick, Isbister, and Connelly?
Milbury: I don't know, I don't feel right about it.
Ottawa: What's the problem?
Milbury: I think I will throw in DiPietro to make it fair.

Jagr may net liberty
Pens star to N.Y. among NHL moves in the works
Tony Gallagher
The Province (Vancouver)
Barring a late entry in the Jaromir Jagr sweepstakes, the gifted Czech should be listing New York state as his working address by the time the NHL draft rolls around next weekend.
The question remains, which county?
The New York Islanders have the greatest collection of young, cheap talent to attract Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Craig Patrick, himself close to signing a new deal to run Mario Lemieux's squad.
While it isn't clear who Isles GM Mike Milbury is dangling, to be sure Zdeno Chara is one name who would be heading to Pittsburgh, as well as perhaps Dave Scatchard and the Isles' top pick.
This posturing on the part of the Isles is all well and good, but most close to the talks are wondering whether the Isles owners will pull the trigger and spend the money it'll take to bring the league's leading scorer. Jagr has two years left on his contract, which calls for a total payment of $20.7 million US, plus he has some deferred money coming his way -- the team taking him needing to assume this responsibility as well.
The other contending team is, of course, the Rangers. While GM Glen Sather has been telling some he isn't too keen on Jagr, there is no question they're in up to their eyeballs on this one.
The Pens are said to be asking for one of either Radek Dvorak or Jan Hlavac along with defenceman Tomas Kloucek, which guts the Rangers of what promising young players the organization has.
At least one other significant, inexpensive asset is also required.
Money isn't a problem for the Rangers, so they could end up with Jagr, who either way will be faced with dragging a poor team into the playoffs.
Jagr knows he's being traded, but it hasn't affected his relationship with Lemieux, the two travelling together to the NHL awards ceremony this week.
"This is business," said Jagr. "Mario and I will always be friends. He's always been my idol and I know this is tough for him. If I was in his position, I would do the same thing."
There were reports late this week that San Jose was interested, but unless it was to quickly deal Teemu Selanne out the side door, this seems unlikely even though the Sharks have more than enough young players to pull it off.
Getting Jagr out of the conference would be attractive to the Pens, but Los Angeles is apparently not willing to kick in the coin, even though the deal makes all kinds of sense for its star-oriented market.
The Canucks, meanwhile, are still chasing Mike Peca, the problem being 10 other teams are doing the same. The rugged centre fits in with the club's plans of landing a top-six forward and the Canucks have the kind of young players that could attract the Sabres, but GM Darcy Regier has many options.
Given the nature of Peca and his ability as a centre-ice assassin, it would make sense for Buffalo to get him out of the conference.
With Doug Gilmour retiring, it would make sense that any deal involving the Canucks might include Brendan Morrison, the young centre fitting Buffalo's plans.
It's believed Philadelphia is interested in Brett Hull and will be making a pitch to land the soon-to-be-unrestricted free agent, although he's also close to Guy Carbonneau and might consider Montreal despite his aversion to returning to Canada.
Teams interested in Dominik Hasek are concerned the legendary goalie, who isn't keen on a pay cut, may pull the pin mentally after the Olympics, the real reason he's decided to play another season.
The Rangers are again said to be interested in this year's Vezina Trophy winner, who's coming off an 11-shutout season, but then the Rangers are said to be interested in any player who can skate and breathe.

MILBURY: Wait a minute, if Im trading you DiPietro, Im going to need a Goaltender now. Wow this is all really confusing. Ill tell you what Ill give you DiPietro, and you can keep Yashin, throw in Eric Lacroix and it will be a deal.
OTTAWA GM: Umm, Mike are you sure?
MILBURY: Yeah Im positive, Yashin isnt a Goalie, And my scouts tell me theres a Cant Miss Goaltender Prospect in 3rd Grade Elementary School in Boston. Lets make this Deal!!
