| O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00  | i reallize i wrote the anme wrong in thread title. oops so FUCK OFF Zimmer calls Piazza a 'little man' in article -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ESPN.com news services NEW YORK -- A Roger Clemens-Mike Piazza showdown won't materialize this weekend at Shea Stadium thanks to Joe Torre, but that doesn't mean the feud is quietly fading away. Yankees bench coach Don Zimmer threw some fuel on the fire with recent comments about Piazza in the latest issue of Esquire magazine. Referring to last season's incident in which Piazza took a Clemens fastball off the helmet, Zimmer told Esquire: "Piazza made a little man out of himself. I don't care who knows it, I lost a little respect for Piazza." Piazza accused the five-time Cy Young Award winner of throwing at him intentionally and that's where Zimmer takes exception. "When Piazza said that in his mind, 'No doubt he threw at me,' that stinks," Zimmer said. "Is Piazza the only (player) in America who ever got hit in the head with a ball? That's what burned my (expletive). There's only one man in the world that knows: the guy that threw it." Piazza told Newsday that he knew about the Esquire article and brought it up himself to reporters Wednesday before the Mets-Orioles game at Camden Yards. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | i didnt mean that he is retarded about baseball...but obviously he would know more than 99% of the players and coaches because he has been around longer than 99% of the coaches and players. So let's not speak about intelligence because it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure that fact out. Zimmer is kinda like those boxers who have had 40 year careers and have more knowledge of the sport than anyone else, but all you hear from them is statements that don't make sense, like the Piazza statement. I don't care how many years you're in the game or whether he's saying that about Piazza or anybody else. But you have to understand that Zim has to stick up for his players. Piazza should have kicked clemens ass when he threw the bat, then i would have had alot more respect for him. Drinking? If you don't realize that by now, you are probably one of the fans who thought the Mets would be as good as last year. | Psychopath Registered: Sep. 00 | Zimmer has been hit in the head before, it actually had some adverse effects on him (i.e. he was afraid to get back in the box when he returned). But he fought through it and came back. Zimmer deserves immunity, hes been around forever and seen everything. Also, VERY IMPORTANT, Zimmer's quotes were misrepresented by Esquire mag. He was reffering more to the carrying on of the issue and the way Piazza handled it. Meaning that Zim disapproved of how PIAZZA VERBALLY WENT AFTER CLEMENS. Not anything else. Think back to Mick Foley's story about the 20/20 interview before you comment. | ||||

( i still remember when clemens hit jeter on purpose because of a tino hr. the guys a dick, but he was playing the unwritten rules of game at the time.)
