The Buffalo Sabres and New York Islanders have finally completed a deal involving Mike Peca, a source has told ESPN.com.

According to a separate report from The Sports Network of Canada, the deal has the disgruntled center going to the Islanders for forwards Taylor Pyatt and Tim Connolly.

Peca, 27, won the Frank Selke Trophy as the NHL's best defensive forward in 1997. He was named captain of the Sabres that summer. He helped Buffalo reach the Stanley Cup final in 1998-99 when he had career-best totals of 27 goals and 56 points.

The 5-foot-11 center from Toronto had 20 goals and 41 points during the 1999-2000 season, when Buffalo was eliminated in the first playoff round by Philadelphia in five games. In light of the decline, Sabres general manager Darcy Regier found it undesirable to grant Peca's salary demands.

Connolly, the fifth choice overall in 1999, scored 10 goals and dished out 31 assists for 41 points this season. He scored 14 goals and 20 assists a year earlier.

Pyatt, the eighth overall selection in 1999, scored four goals and handed out 14 assists with the Islanders this season.

I have to applaud the Islanders on actually doing something and getting 2 big names, but wasn't Connelly supposed to be an untouchable youth. And Pyatt isnt bad either. That trade might backfire for them in the future, but its a trade the Islanders have to make because enough of looking for the future to them, they have been doing that for a decade now and the future never arrives.

Your welcome to our whiney headcase.

Too bad the Isles asked for seconds and got Yashin.

that episode was both funny and disturbing at the same time - the whole oilers thing was good, but that Utah Isles thing freaked the hell outta me!
and tequila, you're right, he does look good in that - but i think he needs the "C" to cap it off.

Are you serious, Arli$$ has to be the worst show ever ever ever. The only reason I watch it on occasion is because it is about sports. But the show is just horrendous.

Arli$$ is a good show. I hope you realize O&A only trashed it because they didn't feel Robert Wuhl was an entertaining enough guest when they had him on in Boston.

Islanders Sign Free Agent Garth Snow

(July 1) Soon after the ringing of the bell for the opening of the unrestricted free agent market, the Islanders signed goaltender Garth Snow this afternoon to a two-year contract that also inludes an option for a third season. In adding the talented and experienced Snow, the Islanders found the netminding insurance they were looking for. Prior to today, the Islanders' depth chart in goal consisted of Rick DiPietro, 29-year old Czech Republic draftpick Dusan Salficky, minor league prospect Stephen Valiquette and recent Quebec League grad David St. Germain.

"We had a need and we made it a priority to fill it," said Islanders general manager Mike Milbury. "Garth is exactly what we were looking for. He's played well everywhere he has been, and he's also known for being a team player. Before he got hurt last season (groin strain), he was Pittsburgh's number one goalie and was playing extremely well."

The 6-3, 200-pound Snow, who will turn 32 on July 28, has played for Quebec, Philadelphia, Vancouver and Pittsburgh. Last year with the Penguins, Snow was 14-15-4 with a 2.95 GAA and impressive .913 save percentage. In 241 career regular season games, he is 91-95-31 with a 2.82 GAA and .899 save percentage. He has proven to be a very capable backup who also can carry the load as the No. 1 goalie when called upon. When we reached Snow at his Maine home on his cell phone, he was ecstatic.

"One of the league's emerging teams called me first thing this morning, told me they really wanted me and worked to get a deal done quickly," said Snow. "This has been a great day for me. I'm going to get a chance to play and be part of an exciting team that is not far away from being a contender. I'm very happy."

Garth Snow is great. Hopefully he'll show DiPietro the ropes.

The Dragons are on pace to sell out just about every game, so I decided to stop being a HUA!!!
