| O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00 | I think Id give Chipper the nod over Ventura just a by a little bit dont you think (Note sarcasm) and I think Id take about 15 AL Outfielders before Chuck Knoblauch. Namely Ichiro Sazuki. Note I refuse to call him simply as Ichiro, until Mike Piazza is known simply as Mike, or Bernie williams is known simply as Bernie, He is going to be called Ichiro Sazuki, or whatever his last name is. This is absurd: Mariners now have five starters leading All-Star tallies If Cal Ripken Jr. is going to go out as an All-Star starter, he has some ground to make up. Seattle's David Bell has taken a narrow lead over Anaheim's Troy Glaus (last year's AL home run champ) and Ripken (future Hall of Famer who is retiring at the end of the season) in the latest All-Star balloting. He joins teammates Ichiro Suzuki (OF), Bret Boone (2B), Edgar Martinez (DH) and John Olerud (1B) as the leading vote-getters at their respective positions. Ichiro maintains his lead as the AL's top vote-getter with 1,734,905 votes. Bell, with 612,665 votes, has passed both Glaus (579,416) and Ripken (558,336), heading into the final week of voting. For the season, Bell is hitting .250 with seven home runs and 34 RBI and is vying for his first trip to the All-Star game, which will be played July 10 at Seattle's Safeco Field. Other American League position leaders are shortstop Alex Rodriguez (764,139) and catcher Ivan Rodriguez (1,204,132) of the Texas Rangers; and outfielders Manny Ramirez (1,062,582) of the Boston Red Sox and Juan Gonzalez (786,544) of the Cleveland Indians. I've had it with the fans voting. What's worse is that this year MLB gave Japan 1,000,000 ballots. That is why this is going to be the Mariners versus the National League. David Bell? Come on this guy sucks. Dan Wilsom is second among AL catchers, SECOND. He should not even be in the league. And it's a good thing Brett Boone is having a great year, and probably should be the starter, but the way the Japanese are stuffing the ballots, he would've been voted anyway. Olerud is having a good year, but should not be the starter. Japan is an extension of Seattle. MLB should give every Major League city 1,000,000 more ballots, to be fair. I know the ALL-Star game is one big popularity contest(or else Cal Ripken woudld've played his last one about 5 years ago) but this is just to rediculously lopsided. If Troy Glaus is not the AL starting third baseman, I will be very disappointed. POTVIN SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! | Psychopath Registered: Jun. 01 | see, there were two guys I REFUSED to vote for: Pay-Rod and Ichiro Suzuki...fuck em both.I also didn't want to vote for staple guys like Ripkin and Maguire.... As for Knoblauch, that was a personal vote. He is my favorite Yankee. It wouldn't matter if he was last in the league with everything, I would still vote for him... A big part of the problem is, people are looking at the ballot, know NOTHING about baseball or its players, and just voting for names that sound familiar. Nomar Garciapara has I don't know how many votes, and he's not even playing! I've been adopted by spitfire!!! | ||||
