O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | First time tino's been hitting in about 2 years, about fucking time. I think they are just going to take it from here, boston has a really tough schedule coming up, and the yanks don't really play anyone that big for a while. i see them by the end of july up 5-6 games, and just keeping that margin for the rest of the year. Here's to the nights we felt alive Here's to the tears you knew you'd cry Here's to goodbye, tomorrow is gonna come too soon... Anyone wanting to be adopted IM me at Jemo123

Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | UPDATE: July 15th, Yankees are STILL in First place but by only a .5 game after 2 spankings by the Marlins and 1 today courtesy of the Phillies, but I am still confident Yanks will run with it, and the Yankees do have 2 great players coming back soon in El Duque and Justice so we shouldnt have anything to worry about. Thanks toPanterA for most of my sigs.

Psychopath Registered: Jul. 01 | A friend of mine who has had seasons in the bleachers for several years wrote this article. I'm posting it here because I think it may interest a lot of you. Pretty good stuff. Enjoy! July 11,2001 Well the 2001 baseball season is at the halfway point. There have been many events that have gone on over the past few homestands........ I will make mention of some points of interest in regards to the Yankees and the numbers they have put up so far: Strength of Schedule- One of the chief complaints lately of Mets fans and other Yankee haters is that the Yanks have an easy schedule down the stretch. They point to the fact that the Yankees have only 10 games against teams over .500 in their last 73 contests after the all-star break (they just finished three with the Phillies). While that is true, let’s take a closer look at the remaining games for their chief rivals, the Redsox. After the all-star break and not counting the games in which the Yankees and Redsox face each other, Boston will play twelve games against teams over .500(A’s Mariners, and Indians twice). But don’t be fooled about the games against the Indians, since Boston has owned Cleveland the last few seasons, even without Pedro Martinez making any starts against the potent Indian lineup. Overall it appears the Yankees will not have an easy time shaking off the Redsox like some fans have already concluded in the middle of July. 2.Chuck Knoblauch- Yeah, I know talking about this guy might be considered a waste of space, however even though I have never liked Knoblauch, there are some interesting similarities in the numbers he has posted as the leadoff hitter for the Yankees. Similar to whom you may ask? Well if you go back to the last time the Yankees had won consecutive pennants and World Series, let’s take a look at the statistics of Knoblauch from ‘98-’00, and the two main leadoff hitters in the late 70’s, Willie Randolph and Mickey Rivers: Rivers Totals: 416 G, 1714 AB, 252 R, 516 H, 90 SB, .301 BA, .324 OBP Randolph Totals: 406 G, 1480 AB, 237 R, 405 H, 86 SB, .274 BA, .362 OBP Knoblauch Totals: 402 G, 1606 AB, 312 R, 449 H, 74 SB, .280 BA, .374 OBP So here you see that Knoblauch is statistically similar in hits, batting average, stolen bases, and on-base percentage. Not only that, he drew 205 walks from ’98-’00, which is one more then Randolph who had 204, and Rivers who only drew 60 walks in the three seasons listed above. And as you can see Knoblauch has scored a lot more runs in those three seasons. So bottom line, he may have been awful at second base, and he has not lived up to his previous billing in Minnesota, but Knoblauch has not been all that bad in the leadoff spot. 3. Andy Pettitte- Ah yes I remember the “dark days†around this time two seasons ago. Pettitte was having a bad season, hovering around .500, high ERA, and certain “fans†in section 39 and around the city were calling for Andy to be shipped out. “The Boss†even had a trade set up for Pettitte to Philadelphia for two draft picks. But Torre stuck to his guns and made sure the trade did not go through. But it’s only now that fans have begun to appreciate what Pettitte has done for this dynasty starting in 1995. Let’s take a look at another under-appreciated left-handed starter that Steinbrenner also wanted to ship out early in his career: Ron Guidry’s first six seasons as a starter: 101-41, 177 GS, 1288 IP, 2.87 ERA, 1 20 win season (1978) Pettitte’s first six years plus this season so far (not including start on 7/15) 109-59, 206 GS, 1361.2 IP, 3.91 ERA, 1 20 win season (1996) And not only has Pettitte had a great run so far, he has better numbers in the latter half of the season, when it is needed the most, and against the Yankees main rival, the Boston Redsox: April-June: 52-32 101 GS, 665 IP, 3.94 ERA July-October: 57-27, 105 GS, 693 IP, 3.83 ERA Against Boston: 8-3, 14 GS, 98 IP, 2.76 ERA 4. Roger Clemens and “The Trade†What I am curious about lately is that the Yanks are not being commended for not jumping out and trading for David Wells and his return to the Bronx that 41 and other fans claimed was “inevitable†and that I should “get used to itâ€. Hmm…so six weeks later, Wells is out for the season and may never pitch again, and Clemens just keeps on winning. Let’s look at both players’ numbers since “The Trade†took place: Wells: 42-25, 85 GS, 562 IP, 4.47 ERA Clemens: 39-19, 81 GS, 522.1 IP, 4.01 Needless to say, considering The Rocket will be pitching for his 300th career win in a few seasons, while Wells will be sitting on his couch, I rest my case with this topic. That’s it for now, Go Yanks Much thanks to Grumpy and my "master" for this kick ass sig pic :) ~~Psycho Bitch~~ "The definition of insanity is repeating the same behavior over and over expecting different results" Proud graduate of Metalfan's purgatory for newbies....but still his "slavegirl" :p
