| BALTIMORE (AP) -- The New York Yankees traded pitcher Brian Boehringer to the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday for catcher Bobby Estalella and minor league pitcher Joe Smith.
Boehringer was designated for assignment Sunday after going 0-1 with one save and a 3.12 ERA in 34 2/3 innings over 22 appearances with New York.
Estalella had 14 homers and 53 RBIs with the Giants last year, but hit only .204 with San Francisco this season before being sent to the minors in June.
Smith, a 23-year-old right-hander, was 7-2 with a 2.57 ERA in 24 games with Hagerstown of the South Atlantic League.
