Quarterbacks
Doug Flutie - The Bills let the 37-year-old quarterback go, opting to save a decade with the frail Rob Johnson. Reportedly, Tampa Bay is interested in acquiring him.

Elvis Grbac - Grbac’s impressive 2000 campaign (28 TDs, 14 Ints, 4169 yards) couldn’t compensate for his $16.5 million cap hit in 2001. His release fuels rumors that the Chiefs are trying to trade for Trent Green.

Trent Dilfer - Yes, Dilfer is the worst quarterback to win a Super Bowl. That point, which has been echoed countless times since the big game, hasn’t been lost on the Ravens. His official release should come on Thursday.

Brad Johnson - Dilfer out, Johnson in. Baltimore will be the front runner, but Johnson may be courted by Tampa, Kansas City, and San Diego.

Ryan Leaf - Finally.

Running Backs
Curtis Enis - Yet another in a series of blown first-rounders for the Bears. Rumors suggest that Cade McNown may not be far behind.

William Floyd - Floyd hasn’t been a meaningful player since his 1995 leg injury.

Wide Receivers
Sean Dawkins - This release is somewhat surprising because Dawkins led the Seahawks in receiving yards in each of the last two years.

Derrick Mayes - Mayes was rumored to be in Mike Holmgren’s doghouse for much of last year, so this move isn’t shocking. Holmgren traded with Green Bay to get Mayes in 1999. He spent much of last year injured.

Carl Pickens - Last summer, the Titans acquired Pickens from the Bengals. Pickens received a sizable contract, but was continually injured, and only played in six games, while catching just 10 passes all year. The move isn't a surprise.

Yancy Thigpen - Seemingly, Thigpen's free agent departure from Pittsburgh hurt all parties involved. The Steelers have yet to find a suitable replacement, and the Titans received a frequently injured player. Thipgen caught just 30 passes per year during his three seasons with Tennessee.

Jake Reed - The emergence of Willie Jackson and Joe Horn has left the oft-injured receiver unneeded in New Orleans.

Courtney Hawkins - Yet another in a series of underachieving Steelers. In his defense, he’s had Kordell throwing to him.

Tony Martin - Martin helped Atlanta reach the Super Bowl in 1998, but since then, he’s been ineffective and injured.

Irving Fryar - Fryar didn’t retire, he was released. Could he have yet another comeback in him?

Tight Ends
Andrew Glover - Cam Cleeland will return to full time duty next year, making Glover expendable.

Kickers
Doug Brien - Brien’s release could haunt the Saints. Many teams are looking for kickers, and Brien could easily be signed elsewhere. Brien is the most accurate kicker in team history. His career .801 field goal accuracy ranks him in the top ten in NFL history. Expect the Redskins to pursue him if their efforts to land Olindo Mare doesn’t pan out. Brien struggled in mid-December, but turned it around to finish with ten straight makes to end the season.

Al Del Greco - After missing a number of critical field goals in the middle of last season, Del Greco was nearly cut, so this move doesn't come as a big surprise. If you combine Del Greco's advanced age with his scratch handicap, retirement seems likely.

Steve Christie - Christie is one of the few kickers that can be counted on in cold weather. The Bills need to sign him.

Others of note:
Ted Washington, DT - The run stopping behemoth was released last week.

Eric Davis, CB - Cornerbacks are in such need that he’ll resurface somewhere. Minnesota perhaps?

John Randle, DT - His sack and tackle numbers have declined for four straight years.

Tyrone Poole, CB - At 5-8, his height makes him a mismatch for the league’s increasingly tall wide receivers.

Kevin Gogan, G - Gogan was one of the best linemen in the game while with Dallas and Oakland.

OK Froy, who died and made you Chris Berman? :)

seriously though, I believe the Ravens released T. Banks yesterday, so Dilfer is still around (presumably as a fallback for whoever they can sign or trade for...)
