I just finished watching the Roy Jones fight, and i know it wasnt too impressive of a fight. But thats because the other guy was a quitter, and was too slow. Roy Jones has the quickest hands ive ever seen, and he can determine the outcome of the fight whenever he wants to. Anyway, here is my list of best fighters pound for pound...which is much different from Larry Merchant's top 5:

1. Roy Jones Jr.
2. Shane Mosley
3. Bernard Hopkins
4. Vladimir Klitchkov (sorry bout the spelling, and who says that best pound for pound cant be heavyweights?)
5. Felix Trinidad

I like your list, Cluster, but I wouldn't put Hopkins ahead of Trinidad, although after September 15th, we may be able to.

Here's my top 5...

1. Roy Jones Jr.
2. Felix Trinidad
3. Shane Mosely
4. Bernard Hopkins
5. Marco Antonio Barrera

I love Roy Jones Jr., but I don't know that I could call him the best pound for pound because it has been so long since he was truly tested. Now of course that is because he is in a division with very little competition. Coming up he absolutely was the best. He destroyed all competition, but when a fighter isn't tested, he gets a little soft. That being said, I have to give the nod to Shane Mosely as number one. I love that kid and I seriously think we are going to see great things from him in the future. Trinidad has always been IMO overrated. No question he is an excellent fighter, but I don't think he is the second coming of Ray Robinson. Oscar was great, but he got cocky and weak, unless he can find the work ethic that once had him on top of the world again, he will waddle in the bowels of mediocrity.

1. Shane Mosely
2. Roy Jones Jr.
3. Bernard Hopkins
4. Marco Antonio Barrera
5. Felix Trinidad

lol i am giddy lol more boxing fans now we are talking.

Now i've listened to this BS about jones for years. Look the guy is falt out the best athlete not only in boxing but the man is physically and mentally the most complete athele in any sport. You want him to go out there and put on a show, why should he? He is the champion you challange the champ not the other way around.

Roy's problem is he will be plaugued for the rest of his career just like larry holmes was. Holmes biggest victories came against an aged dehydrated and visibly beaten mentally Ali and Gerry Cooney. Holmes came into the heavyweight division and held the title for 7 years. By the time tyson, biggs, smith and others rolled along holmes was on the otherside of his prime.

BUT people forget what Jones did at middleweight, just like people forget what holyfield did at light heavyweight. Roy Jones destroyed bernard hopkins in 1993 and he humiliated james toney and vinny pazienza. Toney was supposed to be the one to end jones's career remember undefeated james "lights out" toney, the smaller version of riddick bowe, jones destroyed him.

Jones doesn't wanna end up like sugar ray robinson, joe louis, and muhamed ali among hundreds of others. Plus he doesn't want to hurt others but we have all seen what roy hones can do when he comes out to destroy a man, two words Montell Griffith.

Look at Rocky Marciano, who did he ever defeat? an over the hill 42 year old joe louis, after louis had held the title 12 years and had been retired for 3 years.

Jones has made the steps for the trinidad match, he doesn't fight nobodies he just makes them look like nobodies. IF and i mean IF trinidad beats hopkins in spet he would tenatively face jones in april of 2002, and i predict we see jones at 100% then we see him retire.

My Top 5 as of today:

1.Roy Jones
2.Felix Trinidad
3.Shane Mosely
4.Marco Antonio barrera
5.Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Don't get me wrong Gonz, I still love Roy Jones, and I love to watch him fight. He has great ring savy. He fights with grace, speed and power all at the same time. I know that he is very careful about making sure he doesn't wind up a vegetable, and I respect him for the way he manages his career. He has never really ducked anyone, I simply feel that over the last few years the competition has become mediocre.
I agree that should he land a fight with Trinidad, Jones will be damn sure to come into the fight at 110%. I think that Felix is a good example of a fighter that should not continue to move up in weight. I really think that the heavier he becomes, the less effective he is, but that is just my opinion.

Let me tell you something, i might have ranked Klitskov too low on my list. He is on HBO right now, and he is showing why he is the best heavyweight all around in the division. His jab is awesome, and if he hits you flush with the right just once, you will go down, as his opponent has twice already. He has all the tools to be the next champ.

I just watched that fight as well, and I was very impressed. It was really the first time I have had a chance to see Klitschko fight. At first glance, one thinks "Oh gee, lookie here, another big white European fighter who is probably slower than a Yugo", but looks can be deceiving.

He seems to have excellent speed, power, and defense. He is a thinking boxer. He has the tools to be a great fighter, of that there is little doubt. The only real weaknesses I see are an underdeveloped left hand (although the final blow was a left hook), and a bit too much cement in the shoes. If he can get a little more motion to his footwork, I really think he will go far.
