Psychopath Registered: May. 01 | Remember when the Mets were trying to push this guy as being as good as Jeter? [Cartman] Hahahahah that is so lame![/Cartman] The mets won't be able to get rid of this guy, unless they pay most of his salary. Who thought giving this guy millions was a good Idea? Mets fans - get rid of philips and valentine while you can. Philips is an idiot, and as long as valentine is here you won't get any big players because everyone hates him. Fire 'em both and get alou while you can..

A-Rod was willing to come here and play for Bobby V, but the Mets wanted no part of him because he wanted a tent or so they say. And I wish our 2nd Baseman was hitting as good as Mr. Ordonez.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | i agree with francine, except for that i do remember a litle bit when Ordonez got into the league they would compare him to Jeter all the time. Doesnt matter though. Desi Relaford should be the SS right now, like it or not. Either that, or bench Alfonzo and his .200 average and put Relaford there. That guy has to be in the lineup everyday. Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | Here is my suggestion for Steve Phillips: There were rumors about Pudge possibly leaving Texas. In that case, a three way trade involving the Mets, Rangers, and Arizona. Mets get Pudge, move Piazza to first. Rangers get Zeile and Womack with some minor league pitching thrown in. D'Backs get Ordonez. Won't happen but I can dream. Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | With Ordonez gone, play Relaford everyday. He is one of two Mets hitting over .300 and he is playing great defense. Move Alfonso to Short. Im talking about THe METS 2nd Baseman, Who's hitting .220 and is making Todd Zeile look like a Hall of Famer by comparison. And do I remember the Sports Illustrated Covers? Yeah Greatest Infield ever. What does that have to do with Ordonez and Jeter. Even with Ordonez slacking on defense, hes still far and away a better defensive Shortstop than Jeter.

Psychopath Registered: May. 01 | No, I was talking about the cover with him and Jeter, and an article on each.. Anyway, I can't believe people buy into this ordonez thing. True Jeter is having an off year defensively, but that aside Ordonez is way overrated. Big deal, the guy dives for everything even when its completely unnecessary - he's a flopper. And this 'oh he gets to more balls that other guys can't get to thats why he makes so many errors' is just pure crap. In his career, Jeter has been a more solid defensive shortstop, his height gives him great range and he has great hands..he is no Visquel, but neither is Ordonez, not even close. Greatest infield ever, what a joke.. For example: Kindest Regards, Your Name

O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00 | quote: That statement is just as ridiculous as somebody saying that Rey Ordonez is a better hitter than Derek Jeter and is a better player. Jeter has been atrocious in the Field. And were the 99 Mets the Greatest Infield Ever? Its questionable, maybe, maybe not. But Olerud, Alfonzo, Ordonez, and Ventura. Not too shabby.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | quote: They broke the record for fewest errors in a season, i believe they shattered the record. But, once Olerud left, that defense was not the same. And Ordonez is better than Jeter defensively, i do agree there...but he hasnt done much the last few years since '99. Hed be good for a team like Seattle or Colorado, teams that can crush the ball and dont need a power hitting shortstop. Psychopath Registered: May. 01 | quote: This year? Yes. Career-wise? No way. If you want to see a bad defensive shortstop that can hit, check out nomar garciaparra. Ordonez's play in the field is spotty at best. Yeah he may make a 'dazzler' (also known as a routine ball that he makes look ridiculous by diving for it) every now and then, but he makes more then his share of errors.. Some of the plays i.e. deep in the hole, Jeter makes that ordonez couldn't dream of making. Jeter has the better arm, and can make the routine plays day-in and day-out. the mets are stuck with ordonez. no one wants an overpaid, under perfoming dead-wood shortstop..
