O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Clarke confirms new talks with Rangers -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ESPN.com news services The on-again, off-again Eric Lindros trade talks have apparently resumed between the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers. Lindros The Philadelphia Daily News reported Monday on its Web site that Flyers general manager Bob Clarke confirmed recent discussions with Rangers GM Glen Sather about Lindros. Sather left Saturday for a charity golf tournament in Alberta, but Clarke told the Daily News he expects to talk with Sather again late this week. Talks between the two teams are nothing new. Last month, Lindros added the Rangers to the list of teams he would be willing to play for. His lawyer, Gord Kirke, said on July 3 he had been talking with the Rangers about working out a deal. Clarke also confirmed that he had breakfast last week with Carl Lindros, Eric's father and agent, in Toronto. At the meeting, Clarke reportedly told Carl Lindros that no trade can be worked out with the Toronto Maple Leafs. "Carl still had it in his mind that Eric was going to end up with Toronto," Clarke said. "I had to tell him that wasn't going to happen, that the talks with the Leafs are over. ... He wasn't too happy with it." Clarke also said that he has worked out deals with the Edmonton Oilers and Detroit Red Wings, but the Lindros camp was not interested. "We had agreed to compensation, Carl just asked for way too much money," Clarke told the Daily News. "It isn't that (the Flyers) haven't been able to make a deal, it's that Carl hasn't accepted any of them. There was a deal to be made with Detroit at one time, but Carl shot it down." Carl Lindros could not be reached for comment. Lindros hasn't played since May 26, 2000, when he suffered his sixth career concussion in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals against New Jersey. He was medically cleared to return to the NHL in November. Clarke said Sather told him he "wants to talk to Eric" before proceeding

If he does that I will personally kill him, considering he wouldnt give up anything to try and get the Best Player in the World, Jaromir Jagr. But he would for a guy who is one hit away from Muhammad Ali status.

Hanger-On Registered: Aug. 01 | Thats ok. Let Lindros come back. He'll get pounded night after night again by playing in the division. Between the Devils and Flyers, he'll play two weeks and be out with another headache! His only hope is to head to the west coast where the hockey is a bit more open and not as physical. Why doesn't he just hang it up and be grateful he isn't a vegtable yet.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Dear God am I tired of that prima donna Lindros. As a die hard Flyers fan, I will readily admit that he did at one time mean a lot to the team, however, he NEVER lived up to his hype. He was unable to be the leader the Flyers neede him to be, and in my opinion, if you want to be the highest paid player in the league, it takes more than just talent.... you must be some sort of leader. His injury problems are mostly his own fault. He has always had a bad habbit of skating with his head down, and with guys like Scott Stevens roaming the ice, you just can't do that. You are gonna get decked, and it will be a fairly clean shot, and before you know it you will be waving at the tweety birds circling your head. I blame Clarke and the Lindros' equally, but at this point Eric needs to realize that he really doesn't have a choice. The Flyers will be perfectly content to let him sit out forever. Carl Lindros made this a personal thing, so now he has to eat a little crow. Personally, if the Flyers can just get two solid defensemen for Eric, I will be perfectly happy. Hanger-On Registered: Aug. 01 | After the fuck-up with regard to Jaromir Jagr, the Rangers better sign Lindros because they are hurtin for a star. I also would suggest they sign a goalie who could stop a puck once in a while. Newest castaway on Gilligan's Island. Adopted on 8/13/01.

Psychopath Registered: Jul. 01 | Slackjaw... THANK YOU!! I think I love you :) I totally agree with everything you said. Lindros never lived up to the hype and he was never a true leader to the Flyers...He picked up that bad habit of keeping his head down at an early age and wasn't able to break the habit no matter what he was told...it's really a shame but it's done...all I have to say about him now is get rid of him and at least try and get something worthwhile for him if they can but if not let it go..just get dump him already. This has been dragged out long enough and we're all tired of hearing about it. Oh and Dukey...trust me the last thing the Rangers need is a has-been (or is that a never was?) star....Lindros won't be able to help them, they need someone who won't get knocked (more?) senseless with the first hit. Much thanks to Grumpy and my "master" for this kick ass sig pic :) ~~Psycho Bitch~~ "The definition of insanity is repeating the same behavior over and over expecting different results" Proud graduate of Metalfan's purgatory for newbies....but still his "slavegirl" :p

Joneson, Halovech and Brendl(forgive the misspells) for Lindros. All that's left is Lindros to agree to the Rangers contract offer. Eeek. Could quite possibly go down as one of the worst trades ever.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Francine, not only will Lindros be facing Scott Stevens 5 times, but don't you think there are planty of guys on the Flyers who would love to pop him? Hell, Clarke may just put a Buddy Ryan type of bounty on him. There have been rumors for quite a long time that Lindros and LeClair didn't get along too well off the ice toward the end. While LeClair has never been known as an "enforcer" type, he certainly can hit with the best of them when he wants to. Who knows, if Lindros has it in his head, and can stay healthy, he can still be a dominant player. I just don't see how wise it is to keep him in the division. Either way, if he agrees to terms, he is no longer the Flyers problem. :) School's out, shouldn't you have a job? God cablevision is fucked up, first you pass up Jagr, then you mindlessly hand Houston $100 million, and now you want to trade Halvac, Brendel and Johhansson. Psychopath Registered: Mar. 01 | This was up on the ESPN.com website this morning: Tuesday, August 14, 2001 Lindros deal could be finalized midweek -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Associated Press A deal that would send Eric Lindros to the New York Rangers may be close, several reports said Tuesday The New York Daily News and The Record of Hackensack, N.J., reported that the Philadelphia Flyers conditionally agreed to trade the restricted free agent to the Rangers for forward Jan Hlavac, defenseman Kim Johnsson, young forward Pavel Brendl and a middle-round draft pick. The New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, and The (Westchester, N.Y.) Journal News reported that a deal involving the same players was near. A source close to the situation, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press late Monday night that a trade with the Rangers could be finalized when New York general manager Glen Sather returns from vacation the middle of this week. Lindros' father and agent, Carl, could not be reached for comment. The Inquirer cited several NHL sources in listing the players the Rangers would trade. One person said a deal wasn't set. The Times also reported that two NHL officials said the Rangers could announce the trade as early as Wednesday. Lindros sat out last season after rejecting an $8.5 million qualifying offer from the Flyers. He refused to return to the team because of a contentious relationship with general manager Bob Clarke. Clarke spent the day playing in a charity golf tournament in New Jersey and could not be reached for comment. The 28-year-old Lindros hasn't played since a check from New Jersey's Scott Stevens in Game 7 of the 2000 Eastern Conference finals gave him his sixth concussion 14 months ago. Once he was cleared to resume skating last November, Lindros said he only would play for his hometown Maple Leafs. Days before the trade deadline in March, Lindros added St. Louis, Detroit and Washington to his list. He added the Rangers to the list last month. Clarke has said he doesn't care if Lindros ever plays again. Philadelphia's acquisition of centers Jeremy Roenick and Jiri Dopita put Clarke in position to wait for the best possible offer for Lindros. In eight injury-filled seasons with the Flyers, Lindros scored 290 goals and had 369 assists. The Rangers, shut out in free agency this summer, have long desired Lindros. New York actually traded for the star center nine years ago, but the deal was voided by an arbitrator. After Lindros refused to play for the Quebec Nordiques, who had made him the No. 1 overall pick in the 1991 entry draft, both the Flyers and Rangers claimed to have made a deal to acquire him in 1992. The NHL appointed an independent arbitrator, Toronto lawyer Larry Bertuzzi, to decide the issue and he awarded Lindros to Philadelphia. So we're supposed to give up Hlavac AND Brendl for a guy who a hit away from being crippled?!?!?!?! What the fuck???? These are the times when it's embarrassing to be a Rangers fan....maybe if we're lucky, we'll be able to talk Walt Poddubny out of retirement to head up our second line... But the Isles still suck worse :) It's not funny, my ass is on fire.... Thanks to the lovely Jolene for my sig pic... It's always funny until someone gets hurt, And then it's just hilarious!!!

Psychopath Registered: Jan. 01 | I guess Sather's commitment to rebuilding the team from within has fallen by the wayside. The price wasn't that much higher for Jagr, arguably the best player in the world. And signing Hull is only going to take more playing time away from the young guys. And now, more young guys will probably go to get a goalie. Bring back Esposito as GM. He would have made the Jagr deal. in this desparate part of town Turns you from hunted into hunter You go an' hunt somebody down
