You've seen my ass/movie screen.

I'm whiter than most white people.

Yeah, Silera, maybe you should follow Sloats' example, and avoid buying your kids any name brands.

I mean, here we see Sloats (far left) dropping his kid (front right) off at the local school, and meeting with the faculty. And do you think anyone is concerned about fashion? Hell no! Tongue

Century 21 is my house of worship. Although I usually shop at the one in Bay Ridge. It's closer to me and the salespeople are somewhat less surly.

With a 6 & 8 year old, you have a little more leeway as far as brands, etc. Also, their stuff should be a little more reasonable.

I'll be shopping for my 12-year old son (who is worse than a woman when it comes to shopping). I give him a $50 cut off for sneakers and try to do most of my shopping at Kohl's. Their sales on Wednesdays kick ass.

At his age and size (he's about 5'6", size 11 mens shoes, and size 30 waist), we're shopping in the young men's department now. I can usually do pretty good with shirts, but the pants are a fortune. I got away with $15 per pair of shorts this summer, but only because I forced him to get their store brand as opposed to JNCO crap he wanted.

I wish I could shop at Old Navy, but the kids here wouldn't be caught dead in their stuff. Same with Gap (although that's probably a blessing because they're pretty pricey.)

School supplies alone ran me over $100 last year -- binder, backback, notebooks, pens, pencils, highlighters, filler paper, etc.

Ugh...I'm really dreading this!

Here's a thought though that worked for me two years ago...I bought him a lot of those zip-off pants. Didn't have to buy shorts that summer!

Actually, I don't have a kid. I really don't want to bring forth another cross breed mulato into this world (My wife is Italian).

By some miracle of how my parents raised me, I really didn't want expensive name brand clothes,... maybe it's because I was raised Jewish, or something, but I always had in the back of my mind that the stupid name did nothing but add to the price, which was money that could go to pay the bills that month.

Here I am, at 19, and as luck would have it, we've discovered that in college, no one (disclaimer: no one I'd want to associate with, anyway) gives a flying fuck "who" you're wearing. Aces. Last pair of sneakers I bought, I found a nice pair of New Balance for just $50. Also, plaaasure for me, because I have wide feet.

As for saving up to move, you're doing right by the kids, and guaranteed, they'll thank you for it.

As for suggestions, what ever happened to those half-price apartment-based clothing outlets, Silera?

I never had ANYTHING name brand till I got a job and got it myself. Tell your kids to get a job or wear the walmart brand.
