No-MAH to the Cubs; just part of crazed \"last minute\" MLB trading deadline frenzy - Topper Harley - 08-02-2004

I'm glad nomar is gone. There is no reason to pay somebody that much that is going to sulk and only play for half the season because of little tick tack injuries.

That's a good question. I think Tony Clark is doing an awesome job as a 1st baseman- he's even got the reach that a majority of 1st baseman don't have...he's fucking 6'7"! How much more could you want?
Nazi George makes no sense...

Because at this stage in his career, Clark is better suited to occasional starts at 1st, and being a late defensive replacement and switch-hitting bat off the bench. Which is the role he would occupy if Giambi were healthy.

Granted, Olerud isn't much <s>younger</s>, but he was still playing 1st on a daily basis, and is physically more prepared to be out there every day.

*(Clark is younger by about 4 years-- thanks, Dru)

clark has been playing first base the majority of the time since giambi got sick.

& he's actually 4 years younger than olerud

As much as I am forced to hate him (Due to me being a SOX fan), Clark is playing very strongly this year.

I was thinking about the age thing too. bhut now that i think about it, i realize that you are right. Olerud is more used to playing everyday and thats the difference.

whatever. i just hope that Giambi is ready for sept.

Even when Giambi was healthy last year (before the knee issue), Nick Johnson played significant time in the field.

Very few players these days get the Cal Ripkin treatment, where you just pencil their name into the lineup day in and day out. Jeter is one; Rodriguez and Sheffield, too.

Clark ain't in that category. Hell, even Bernie has to split time with Kenny Lofton now.
