Communication is the key to any human relationship and compromise is how we navigate socially. With that in mind, would it be impossible for you to maybe meet the newcomers half way by learning a little Spanish? It will more likely than not prove to be an impetus for them to learn Spanish. Think how horrible it would be to be in a foreign place where no one knows your language or your customs. i think it would be scary and I can't be too sure I would be so quick to give up my cultural identity.
I guess it boils down to this: if we expend so much energy criticizing and hating people, we'll never have the time to love and appreciate them. I think that would be a nice world to live in.
