I don't think the DUES for the Fraternity or the local VFW HOUSE was paid for by the government.
And if someone separates themselves from society at large at some level, they WILL be treated differently, be it Hasidics, Mormons, Amish, Punks, Collegic Greeks, etc...

Im serious, at the gym yesterday I was taking off my weight lifting gloves and socks at the same time. The I put my gloves in my bag and my socks in my shoes, all at once. Its a great time saver.

Completely removing themselves like the Amish, no. But they will be identifying themselves as a subgroup, and because they will become a subgroup of society, the WILL be viewed and judged differently then society on whole.
