a kid of about 10 with really bad black hair who leaves home, meets some friends and battles with little monsters...
then

MetaBots a kid of about 10 with really bad black hair who leaves home meets some friends and battles with little robots
Yugiho a kid of about 10 with really bad ??? hair who leaves home meets some friends and battles with monsters on cards
Monster Rancher a kid of about 10 with really bad black hair who leaves home meets some friends and battles with Bigger monsters

There haven't been good cartoons on TV in a long time. The last ones that were any good were the Batman ones, Spider Man in the early 90's, the new Spider Man ones on MTV are pretty cool. Oh yeah and Johnny Chimpo.

By the way- did you all know that from 2-3 on TBS they show "Futurama" at 2 & "Family Guy" at 230? I'm surprised they're showing "Family Guy" on there so early considering it's definitley NOT a kiddie cartoon....

Look at the cartoons of the 80s:
Transformers--Transforming robots from another planet battle each other on earth
Go-Bots--Transforming robots battle each other
Voltron--Kids use transforming lion robots to battle evil and save the planet
There was also another one with 3 guys who had "assualt weapons" that they could customize that transformed them into living weapons to defeat the bad guys. Can't remmeber the name of it though.

Transformers and Voltron were nothing alike.
go bots WAS transformers, but aimed at the younger audience....
I understand that there will always be immitators of success, but some of these characters are drawn identically.

Yeah, I had them. I think there were three of them, but I don't think they ever made that into a cartoon. They also had the spaceplane voltron that was like 30 or 40 little futuristic space vehicles.
