Have to post it before Fbldfrg joins up and beats me to it... (LotR) - Lord Magus - 12-19-2003 Ok, saw the 12:01am showing Tuesday night, and I have 2 things to say.. LONG ass movie (3 hours 30 minutes about) Worth EVERY GOD DAMNED MINUTE!! (commentary to follow, if you aren't familiar with the story do NOT READ!!) Ok, first off, I'd like to congratulate Peter Jackson on being able to string the ending of Two Towers for Frodo and Sam to well beyond halfway through the Return of the King. The ending started to feel a bit like a run-on sentence.. but it was the true ending from the book. (I'm talking about the very very end here, the raising of the Shire was not included in the movie) I guess the best thing I can say is... being someone who has read the LotR trilogy an average of once a year since the age of 7 (and the Hobbit since age 5) I am not only satisfied with the film(s), I am highly pleased! I was actually proud when I walked out of the theater, because I knew after seeing the ending of the story... all sorts of people who may have commented on my obsession will now understand my passion for this story. Tolkien tells a great tale.. Jackson made it "look" awesome! Have to post it before Fbldfrg joins up and beats me to it... (LotR) - madmick - 12-19-2003 Do you think Jackson would be up to doing The Hobbit? I haven't seen Return of the King yet, but I just watched the extras from Two Towers and I'm really amazed at the level of commitment from the whole cast and crew. I'd love to see Jackson recreate that magic with The Hobbit too. Have to post it before Fbldfrg joins up and beats me to it... (LotR) - Lord Magus - 12-19-2003 My brother tells me he's heard that Jackson's going to be working on a King Kong re-make (with the actress who plays Eowyn in Fay Wray's (sp?) role) and is considering doing the Hobbit after that project. I've heard several rumors that there's been talks about it as well. After seeing the Mumak's and Gollum and Shelob... I'd LOVE to see to see Weta digital put together a Smaug. I'm glad I didn't like the first one...I don't think my ass could sit in a theater seat for 3-1/2 hours. Have to post it before Fbldfrg joins up and beats me to it... (LotR) - GreasyItalianPrincess - 12-19-2003 Peter Jackson is doing King Kong with possibly Naomi Watts as Fay Ray. JAckson has also said he'd be interested in doing The Hobbit one day. (LotR) - The Brain - 12-19-2003 Quote:Originally posted by sweet angelEach theatrical version runs just about 3 hours in length, give or take a few minutes... but that doesn't tell the whole story. See, the 1st extended edition DVD movie runs about 208 minutes (3 hrs., 28 min.) ... and the 2nd extended edition runs 223 minutes (3 hrs., 43 min.)... Now if this one is <i>already</i> about 3 1/2 hours long, then the extended DVD edition should run, oh I'd say about 4 hours then. So all in all, have a big-ass tub of popcorn ready, and cancel all appointments for a full day. (And really, there <i>is</i> no other way to enjoy these movies other then their extended edition versions. Don't you dare get the "theatrical release"). Gotta say this is definitely an instant classic, no doubt about it. I have one question though that no one I've asked seems to know the answer to. Why is it that Gandalf, who is a white wizard, never used magic in any of the fights? I know he did once to fend off the dragons, but in every other battle he chose to fight with a sword instead of spells. That just didn't make any sense to me. Do any of you know why this was? |
