Stink Over Man Hunting Skunks On Golf Course
Sep 22, 2004 7:48 am US/Eastern
KENT, N.Y.
An employee of the Sedgewood Golf Club in Putnam County faces criminal charges because he used a shotgun to blast away three skunks that were damaging the course. Kent Police say some called at nine p-m Monday to report a golf cart with its lights on driving around the golf course, and shots being fired.
Police say they found 36-year-old Christopher Lehan of Stormville in the golf cart with a loaded 20-gauge shotgun. He told police he killed three skunks that were tearing up the golf course. He didn't realize that shooting skunks was against the law.
However the state Department of Environmental Conservation says trapping skunks is legal between October 25th and February 15th.
The Sedgewood Club community is an exclusive neighborhood of about 80 homes with well-known celebrities such as musician Yitzhak Perlman and newsman Gabe Pressman.
