Sting last nite
#1
Corporate sponsorship got a coworker, both of my bosses and I back-to-back pairs of Orchestra seats at the Beacon last nite. We chose to sit behind the men (you know, in case we got tempted to flash Sting), which turned out to be a bad idea since one had big hair and the other a big head. While my view of the band was blocked I checked out the three video screens he had going to the music. There were some SEXY dancing silhouettes and I actually had to restrain my boss with, “You know there’s not a real girl dancing back there, right?”

Musically, the band was tight. I really dug the keyboards and the Moroccan percussionist. The Stinger was brimming with Oscar fresh stage presence and definitely brought it with his vocals and instrumentals. I didn’t think I knew that many Sting tunes until I caught myself singing along to a few that I must have heard on hold or in an elevator. Someone’s gotta tell his guitarist that he’s not in a metal band; no one’s gonna mosh to the stage to catch your sweat beads when you drop to your knees for a solo.

Which brings me to the docile crowd – mostly older white people. I honestly didn’t encounter one single person of color who didn’t work there. Though I have my doubts about the authenticity of the backup singers, as they were uncoordinated and rhythmically challenged. Come on girls, there’s only 2 of you. How hard can it be to synch right arm, left arm, turn, repeat?

Can’t give many details about the encore as drinks were on the company’s tab. But it was def a fun night, best time I’ve had at an event that ended before 11. Would I see Sting again? Sure . . . if it was free.

Gee did he sing Fields of Gold? I love that song soooo much. . . . . Rolleyes

The only good stuff with Sting was when he sang with the Police.

I've always wanted to be Sting. Like griz, i don't care much for his music after the police, but there is something really cool about that guy. I wouldn't mind banging his wife for 12 hours straight either as he claims to do.

I'd certainly be too tired to go on after 8 hours.
