The only thing thats being kept from the public about the girl is her identity. Kobe isn't protected from this because an arrest is public information. As you can see from the most recent developments, the skeleton's in the girls closet (a report had her attempting suicide 2 months ago) are being dug up too, so she is getting the same treatment. The exception is that she doesn't play for the Lakers, so the population isn't coming out to defend her.
