That said, it's kind of weak math to count weekends as "vacation" given that it's 28% of the time, and to say that any time he's not in Washington DC, he's "on vacation". I mean, come on. Like Clinton didn't play golf and vacation?

And of course he hasn't given speeches, everyone knows he's a poor speaker. Would you want to remind everyone of that fact? Again, doesn't mean that he's not doing any work.

The guy had summits with heads of state in Camp David et al. Are they counting the times he was in NYC as "vacation", or the times he went to the mideast?

Of course not. Just time spent at Camp David, Crawford, or Kennebunkport. I'm sure some of the vacation time is devoted to official business or whatever, but think about it - in barely 18 months, George W. Bush took more days off than Clinton and Jimmy Carter did in a combined twelve years. It doesn't look good.

Like a CEO, the president doesn't actually DO anything. It doesn't matter where he is, but I understand that it makes it look like he doesn't do shit.

Actually, the vacation info doesn't come from a "they", it's all from one guy: White House Reporter Mark Knoller. The guy basically follows the president around everywhere he goes and takes notes on all their activities...like how much time, down to the minute, Bill Clinton spent playing golf, what his average scores were, etc. I'd recommend Googling his name and reading some of his findings, it's pretty interesting (if trivial), and there don't seem to be any biases in his work.
