No-MAH to the Cubs; just part of crazed "last minute" MLB trading deadline frenzy
#1
The Red Sox trade Garciaparra to the Chicago Cubs as part a 4-team deal.
Quote:
In a blockbuster four-team deal announced an hour after the official 4 p.m. ET trade deadline, the Chicago Cubs acquired five-time All-Star shortstop Nomar Garciaparra from the Boston Red Sox.
The Red Sox received shortstop Orlando Cabrera from the Expos and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz from the Twins in the deal, with the Cubs sending shortstop Alex Gonzalez and minor leaguers Francis Beltran, a right-hander, and Brendan Harris, an infielder, to Montreal. Minnesota gets minor-league pitcher Justin Jones from the Cubs.
In other news, The Yanks traded neurotically enigmantic Jose Contreras... for only slightly less enigmatic Esteban Loaiza of the Chicago White Sox. Harold Reynolds also reported on ESPNews that the Yanks got John Olerud to hold down 1st base while Jason Giambi gets over whatever the hell is ailing him.

The Dodgers were major players today too, picking up Finley from the Diamondbacks, although now everyone wonders how well Milton Bradley (God, I love that name) is going to deal moving to left field. And even the Mets won the Kris Benson sweepstakes that the Pirates had going.

So what do y'all think? Who made the best moves? Worst moves? Who should've been more active?

And of course, there's still the issue with Randy Johnson lurking out there (which is why I put "last minute" in the thread title-- the deadline ain't really the finality of trading).

I still think the Mets were stupid to give up Kazmir and Wiggie. Well, looks like 3rd place this year isn't far from reality.
I'm not quite there yet

I for one am glad they got rid of Nomar.

Before I have a thousand Yankee fans jumping down my throat here is why...

#1: Nomar complains for 3 years about wanting to "End his career back home in LA".
#2: Red Sox offer him a contract which would make him one of the highest paid ball players in MLB (right behind AROD & MANN^Y), which he turns down.
#3: When the Red Sox try to trade him for AROD, he gets all bent (even after he turned down the contract).
#4: This was on WBZ in Boston today (Sunday). Nomar walked into Francona's office on Sat morning after a sub par performance on Friday night complaining that his heel was bothering him and that he would not be able to play the rest of the Twins series. He further went on to suggest that they put him on the DL for the month of Aug. so that he could, "Heal up and be ready for Sept"... Then Boston Management tell him about the deal in the works and all of a sudden his heel is mysteriously all better...

It all boils down to him having a problem with management (for whatever reason) and taking it out on the fans. People who LOVED and supported him since day 1. I am disgusted.

This is a big difference between the Red Sox and the Yankees. Because of the discipline in the Yankee organization, you would never see this kind of behavior out of a Yankee ball player. The Red Sox fans are the most loyal fans on the planet, and for one of their superstars to shit on them like that...

Ah fuck it, I'm done.

Thank god it's football season and the PATS are back stronger than ever. Atleast I can cheer for winners now!
