I'm not a trekkie, but, this definitely sounds like communism to me. Classless society, working for the common good rather than individual success and productivity?

Communist governments are restrictive and forceful only because it's human nature to be self-interested. If everyone were on the same page, and had the same beliefs about what is moral and best for the common good, there wouldn't be a need for these restrictions at all.

Like I said, I'm not a trekkie so I'm probably way off base, but it just sounds like what you described (no one is rich or poor...the driver for the society was to "better themselves morally."...So work would be a satifaction, rather than earning money.) is an idealized view of communism. I'm not saying that's a bad thing or a good thing.

I think in Star Trek, it's not forced among the people though. They wanted this.

Communism to me sounds like you are forcing values onto the major of people through the power you have.

From how people in the Federation acted, it doesn't seem like they were unhappy.

Utopia does not mean communist. You are misusing the description, thought it's a GREAT point. Socialist gov'ts is what you mean. Communism is a bastardization of what Socialism was supposed to be...b/c it was used a tool to put people in power. However, utopia, where those issues don't come up, is a very Waldenesque like concept, and not necessairly Socialist and obviously not very capitalistic.

it's fuckin Star Trek...they had no clue in what they were saying, they were just predicting some childish greed would be gone. would it really...prob not. if we were in space, land would be the new greed.
