Who makes the band what it is?
#21
i think the singer makes up the recognition for the band most of the time. look at some of the modern ones.. such as audioslave... it is chris cornell singing, and if you listen to the songs, for a lot of them you would think you are listening to a softer soundgarden song.. yeah, tom morello has a guitar presence that is easily defined, but it still sounds a lot like soundgarden because of Chris Cornell's voice. Also, there is Zwan.. they just did break up but if you listen to the cd that came out last year, it sounds awfully similiar to any smashing pumpkin cd becuase the lead singer is the same, Billy Corgan.

I think in some respects there is a difference. A good example is "Like a Stone" The solo is all Tom Morello. Look past his political leanings and you can tell the guy is an awesome guitar player. There is one other song that sounds like Soundgarden that I have heard(don't own the album) where they distort Cornells voice at the end, and you could swear it's Soundgarden. So I am kinda agreeing with you on that point. Still have no idea why those guys called it quits.

I predict a Soundgarden reunion sometime in the near future. It's bound to happen.....I pray it happens.

Rush - I'm 110% with Sir O on this - none of them are replaceable, and each in an equal way to the other two.

With Maiden, it's a little different - D'Ianno was tossed/left the band because Harris ideally wanted more from Maiden besides the "let's see the middle fingers" attitude that D'Ianno was loving. When Bruce entered the band, Harris and him really steered the band to their peak - and are still going strong today. Blaze sucked, but if you listen to those albums and remove Blaze, the music is pretty good.

Another band that's had several lineup changes is Yes - aside from a few albums in the 70's, these guys seemingly had a different lineup with each album release. Some of the changes brought great results (see 90125/Trevor Rabin) and others were awful (see Drama/Trevor Horn).

I think most drastic change in a band with a singer change was Genisis.

It's like two completely different bands, from the Art Rock/Experimental band with Peter Gabriel then they completely morphed into a bubble gum pop band with Phil Collins.

Listen to "Carpet Crawlers" then throw in "Invisible Touch" for a good laugh

Whaaaaaaaat??? Like that wasn't bound to happen. Shit, now what Jimmy????

I just went to their website....and read the timeline of all the exits of band members....
Warrant should've called it quits a long long long time ago.
