The U.S has defeated teh canadians 4-3 to win the World Junior Championship for the first time in 28 years. This easily is the best moment for U.S. hockey since the 80 Gold Medal and to have it come against the inventors of the sport is that much sweeter. Add in the fact that the U.S. was trailing 3-1 going into the 3rd period and rolled off 3 unanswered to take the game and that just puts the icing on the cake. So I salute you, oh brave ice gods for a job well done!!!!!!!!!

If Russell Crowe was on the team, they would have won by 10

Best moment since 1980 was the women beating the Canadians for the first time for the first woman's gold medal in Japan. Some would claim that Gretzky moving to LA was an important USA hockey event. Even the Rangers winning the cup and making hockey chic in the eyes of some people was a big event. Juniors as a miracle? I'll pass.

songs that made the hit parade,
guys like us we had it made,
those were the days,
and you know where you were then,
girls were girls and men were men,
mister we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again,
didn't need no welfare states
everybody pulled his weight,
gee our old Lasalle ran great,
those were the days!</center>

We beat Canada, again showing that Canada, try as they might, will always be second on this continent.
I almost want to feel bad for Fleury... but... nah...
Go USA!

Blasphemy.
May you get severely beaten with a hockey stick. Twice.
Then, I hope you get jabbed by Tie Domi himself.
and FUCK YEAH! GO USA!
(psst, hockey wasn't invented by the Canadians - It was invented by the Dutch. Or was it the Finnish? either way, hockey was not invented in the Great White North.)

Bullshit, this is bigger than that. Why else would NHL Tonight, the preeminent hockey program of this country, do 15 minutes on it and the Minnesota Wild sit in a hotel lounge and watch the entire game, instead of getting ready for the Blues game later that night. I know Cammie Granato was a great story, but women's hockey in the olympics is a fairly new sport, first competing in the olympics in '98, this was the first time ever that we won the gold in this event, that's 28 years of losing, that's bigger than the women's gold medal win, hands down.
