Sex With Sam
#1
New Mexico Congresstwit Heather Wilson was on Sam Donaldson's radio show, complaining about Karmazin and indencecy etc. She mentioned "Sex with Sam, where some New York radio show was promoting people having sex in St. Patrick's Cathedral". and you though Paul Mercurio, Producer was an inacuracy!

I can't find the exact testimoney, but Wilson and Karmazin were at this FCC hearing yesterday, talking about the Superbowl and such, and had an exchange that went something like this:

Wilson: What have you done in reaction to Ms. Jackson's boob's surprise appearance at the Super Bowl half-time show?
Karmazin: We have already fired people in regards to indecent content.
Wilson: Who was fired because of the Half-Time show.
Karmazin: Well, nobody really. But we did fire some people in New York when their radio show went too far.

As long as the FCC keeps talking about increasing fines and stopping indecency (they're picking on the Sopranos now), expect to see Opie and Anthony and "Sex with Sam" references popping up on the news.
It's all a part of my secret evil plan, pal. Just watch.

How can the FCC go after a strictly pay cable program? (And by "strictly pay cable", I mean that the programming is funded solely by subscribers, with no advertisment revenue). The whole point of HBO, Cinemax, etc. is that they are not broadcast TV, and do not have to abide by the same regulations. If a consumer finds that channel, or its programs, to be "indecent", they simply do not have to pay for the service, and it goes away.

I don't know. I think that when they complain about Cable they mean shows like "the Shield", but they say Sopranos (I think it's got a bigger audience). The people complaining probably don't watch the show, so they don't realize it's on a pay network. Like Bob Dole complaining about NIN's Closer - never heard it, but I know it says horrible things.

So regular people are complaining about the cable shows? The FCC doesn't have the capacity to regulate cable programming.

That's today.

"Congress would have to change rules governing the FCC before the commission could expand its oversight of cable TV. Because cable is a subscription service that does not use the public airwaves, it has historically been out of the FCC's jurisdiction. But in the aftermath of the Super Bowl halftime show, Congress may be willing to give the FCC greater authority over cable. "

here's the whole article
