But what can you talk about in AIM that you can't talk about here?
different style of interaction. immediacy being big diff. plus, not set theme, topic or such
Quote:And what if you don't know everybody's AIM S/N?
i see no prob there. either you find out, or chat with someone you think is new.

sick fuck
Quote:I thought the chat threads were cool. Sure, when forced they sucked and regardless of how good they were someone always complained, but I always enjoyed them.
they were ok...but when they became the ONLY thing going on, then it was a problem. many threads become chatty on ymb at times, or get back on topic..so i see no problems.

I guess I just tend to agree with the idea that a chat room will take away from activity on the board.
Then again, CDIH has an AIM chat and there's never anyone in there when I check it.

Empty or not, it would still be a nice option to have. Shit, back in its heyday, the Foundry one was rocking. It's actually how I met a lot of you guys. I think people here are somewhat intelligent and can multi task. Post here and blab away in the chatroom.

I'd suggest it in Opus's forum, as well.
I miss the days of chat.

Any schmo can create an IRC channel. Good enough program, you can kick, ban, ignore, and mod within the channel.
If a code fellow can attach it, it's easy as pie to get going.
In my experience though, yes, it will hurt the board.
well, which is it?
incase you forgot when you said that, its from my thread in the mod forum about starting a chat room last november, when everybody told me it was a bad idea.
i'm gonna start calling your Toronto F. Kerry
Just call her Sybil. It's shorter and it rolls off the tongue easier.

not to mention people are allowed to change their minds. one opinion isn't set in stone. i'd have agreed to that assessment of not having a chat back last year..but since same peeps use board, makes sense.

I apparently dropped my [sarcasm][/sarcasm] tags, on the first part of the second post.
My bad.

I for one never liked the chat threads, simply because they were a waste of time and by having a room to do that sort of thing, we don't waste the space in here.

It would probably be less painful letting The Man fuck me in the ass than being in a chatroom with JBE.

Ohhh, my. I missed your last part, quoted from Champagne.
Not a brilliant man, are you?
I've seen some boards die, and some boards continue just fucking fine, both with and without.
CDIH does well. .Net does fine,.............., at the time, I thought it hurt SOA, but it wasn't there long, and nothing's changed, since it left.
So confrontational, my little dickhead friend.
