If I think really hard I think I can come up with a racist joke about collard greens and poverty, instead:
'The mother fucker was racist and plain'
It used to come so natural to you.
They were never natural. I wasn't born a racist. New York City turned me into one.
(It's hard to hate Jews and Blacks when there really are any in Plattsburgh.
Well, to be completely honest, they are up there, but they don't try to distinguish themselves from anyone else. Just like the Italians and Irish. They just blend in and act like everyone else.
But down here, I know that fucking asshole in driving in front of me with his tinted windows and Beastie Boy playing at 12 is a Ginzo because he voluntarily discloses it with a green white and red tile on his truck.
I have seen that any perceived transaction against a black person becomes a shit storm, whether it's opening an office into Harlem, or trying to serve an arrest warrent in a courtroom.
I liked it SOOOO much better when you were just my neighbor, just a fellow American. Not "I'm an Irish-American, and that is why I drink so much and you're good with numbers because 80 years ago your ancestors left Germany" or "I'm Jewish so since I can't marry you or date you I won't talk to you" or "I'm Albanian so I'm only going to talk to other Albanians".
Fuck. If we want to stop racism, all we have to due is stop separating and dividing each other.)

Boy the way Glen Miller played,
songs that made the hit parade,
guys like us we had it made,
those were the days,
and you know where you were then,
girls were girls and men were men,
mister we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again,
didn't need no welfare states
everybody pulled his weight,
gee our old Lasalle ran great,
those were the days!
